The Allard Motor Company, founded by Sydney Allard, had a significant impact between the 1930s and the 1950s when its cars achieved notable successes at Le Mans, Monte Carlo and on tracks in the United States and across Europe. In this book, Allard expert Peter Love tells the inside story of this unique British sports-car manufacturer, including its formative years, and the development of the various post-war Allard models from the two-seater K to the four-seater L and M-series and the P saloon, on to the famous J2 and J2X sports racers. The book also includes innovations, such as Sydney Allard’s introduction of dragsters to the United Kingdom. The book shows how Allard successfully combined British-designed body shells and chassis with American engines from manufacturers such as Cadillac and Chrysler, which was in inspiration for the AC Cobra. The Allard marque still has a strong following in the United States as well as Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Allard cars continue to go from strength to strength, both as carefully restored and preserved classic models and as modern versions built by Sydney Allard’s son and grandson.
