A Disquisition on Government – hinnat ja saatavuus

A Disquisition on Government is a political treatise written by John Caldwell Calhoun, an American politician and statesman, in 1851. In this book, Calhoun explores the nature of government, its purpose, and its limitations. He argues that government is necessary to maintain order and protect individual rights, but warns against the dangers of centralized power and the tyranny of the majority. Calhoun's central thesis is that government should be based on the principles of constitutionalism and federalism, with power divided among different branches and levels of government. He advocates for a system of checks and balances to prevent any one group or individual from gaining too much power. He also discusses the role of the judiciary in interpreting the constitution and resolving disputes between the different branches of government. Throughout the book, Calhoun draws on historical examples and philosophical arguments to support his ideas. He critiques the prevailing political theories of his time, including democracy and republicanism, and offers his own vision for a more stable and just society. A Disquisition on Government is considered one of Calhoun's most important works and has been influential in shaping political thought in the United States. It is a must-read for anyone interested in political theory, constitutional law, or American history.
