Hermetica, Volume 1 is a collection of ancient Greek and Latin writings that contain religious and philosophical teachings attributed to the legendary figure Hermes Trismegistus. The book is compiled and translated by Walter Scott, an English writer and scholar who specialized in the study of Hermeticism, a philosophical and religious tradition that emerged in the Hellenistic period and influenced various esoteric and mystical movements throughout history. The writings in this volume cover a wide range of topics, including cosmology, theology, ethics, and spiritual practices. They offer insights into the nature of the universe, the relationship between God and humanity, and the path to spiritual enlightenment. Many of the teachings are presented in the form of dialogues between Hermes and his disciples, and they often incorporate elements of mythology, astrology, and alchemy. The book is divided into three main sections: the Corpus Hermeticum, a collection of 17 treatises that explore the nature of God, the cosmos, and the human soul; the Asclepius, a dialogue between Hermes and the god of healing that discusses the role of medicine in spiritual healing; and the Hermetic excerpts from Stobaeus, a compilation of fragments from various Hermetic texts. Overall, Hermetica, Volume 1 is a fascinating and insightful exploration of a rich and complex philosophical and religious tradition that has influenced Western thought for centuries. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of ideas, spirituality, and the esoteric traditions of the ancient world. This is a new release of the original 1924 edition.
