ENGLISH DESCRIPTION WEEKENDAVISEN AWARD WINNER "A genuinely original historical novel," bestselling phenomenon in Denmark and in Italy: "A monumental work about the most famous woman in 12th-century Europe" (Adresseavisen). "An exceptional and intense book: a harrowing reading experience. A great novel." V rt Land (Norway) Hildegard of Bingen was born in Bermershein, in southern Germany, in 1098. Frail and ill, those attending the delivery predict that she will not last through the night. But she will survive, and this will become one of the milestones of her prodigious existence. Since she was little, she had visions, and at the age of ten she was confined in a convent. In addition to being a poet, composer, biologist, and mystic, she made natural medicine and beer as it's made today, and she was the first person to write about the female orgasm. This nun of high birth, whom thousands of her followers would nickname the Sibyl of the Rhine, was in charge of the monastery of Bingen; she created an order of nuns dressed in white and without a veil, who, during prayers, danced in circles with flowers in their hair, she rubbed shoulders with nobility, and she risked her life defying the Church and even Emperor Barbarossa. Anne Lise Marstrand-J rgensen has written an award-winning, monumental and moving biographical novel about a woman that historians equate to Saint Augustine or Leonardo da Vinci, "one of the great heroines of history, whose legacy would initiate the earliest feminist expression ...] It was an unrepeatable phenomenon, one of the almost non-existent ones that did not end up at the stake" (Eugenia Miras, ABC).
