The book takes the reader on a leadership journey using the dramatic device of following Shackleton's attempt to cross the Antarctic continent, in order to explore perennial leadership principles and challenges in challenging contexts. The book explores seven perennial challenges to leadership and advances corresponding principles for developing the state of mind for responsible leadership and leveraging strategic capability in any context. The focus of the book is on the lived experience of exemplary leadership to provide the reader with a real and immediate understanding of timeless leadership challenges and corresponding principles. The scientific research provides the underlying rigour to the book but the emphasis throughout is on the immediacy of the challenge and how the reader can apply the principles to be effective as a leader. The book integrates theory and practice based on extensive applied research and field work in complex and demanding contexts. The author's have clearly lived what they write.
