ENGLISH DESCRIPTION The memoirs of the renowned Mexican author, Laura Esquivel, sprinkled with her nostalgia for the past, but centered on her hopes for the present times. From the house she was born in, the street games of her childhood, and the music that played as a life soundtrack, to various social movements and the World Trade Center terrorist attack--which she witnessed--Laura Esquivel, the most-widely read Mexican author in the world, shows us, through a colorful mosaic of stories, what she has seen with her own eyes, what she has witnessed in her 72 years alive. Thirteen renditions that are equally a link to our history, a celebration of our traditions, a social commentary, and an emotional recounting of Laura's memories and those of an entire generation. In a constant sway oscillating between the idea that the past is better or that living in the present is what sublimes us as human beings, the author of Like Water for Chocolate confirms what she has found to be true: it is always more beautiful to gaze with your soul than with your eyes.
