Thompson was most famous for his discovery of the electron, which was the very first subatomic particle to be found. He was also responsible for unearthing the first evidence for isotopes of a stable element in 1913. Thomson won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1906 for his work related to conduction of electricity in gases.
