This new volume comprehensively addresses the key questions regarding Islamic Radicalisation. Islamic radicalisation is widely understood as the cognitive and ideological framework and denominator for the creation of a worldview that is not only incompatible with, but openly hostile to the principles of pluralism, freedom of expression and democracy itself. Our knowledge of Islamic Radicalisation as a historical and contemporary sociological phenomenon is rather limited, however. This book is intended to provide an accessible yet sophisticated introduction to all the key topics of radicalisation, not only by addressing contemporary developments but the historical roots and development of the movement as well. It addresses the main challenges posed by Islamic radicalisation to Western states, not only representing societal and political concerns but also making a genuine effort to understand the appeal of Islamic radicalisation to young people, who have undergone comprehensive socialisation in the democratic and welfare states of Europe.
