Schiff base complexes with transition and heavy metals are used in organic synthesis, analytical reagent, metal-ion catalyst and medicine. Schiff's base chemistry is widely studied because of its high synthetic flexibility, various coordination ability and usefulness for medicine. These compounds contain > C = N group and are also known as imine or azomethine, but are generally known as SCHIFF BASE after Schiff, who synthesized such compounds.
