But when she meets John-a ruggedly handsome mortician, of all people-at the funeral of a family friend, her life changes forever. As John and Macie's relationship blooms into marriage, the two must overcome their differences and the struggles life throws in their path. John persuades Macie to sell her salon and work at the mortuary with him and his socially impaired brother, Charlie, applying makeup to the corpses. Macie gets pregnant but miscarries immediately after John has rough sex with her. John becomes an emotional wreck after this, convinced the miscarriage was his fault, and when she gets pregnant again, he avoids all but the gentlest of sexual interactions. Meanwhile, at the mortuary, Macie's been noticing some irregularities with the bodies. Sometimes they appear disheveled or in a different position than the day before. Now seven months pregnant and feeling more disconcerted each day, Macie wonders what's really going on. Will trust and fidelity survive the bitterly cold reality of her morbid discovery?
