Visible Saints: The History of a Puritan Idea – hinnat ja saatavuus

Visible Saints: The History of a Puritan Idea is a comprehensive study of the concept of ""visible saints"" in Puritan theology and practice. Written by renowned historian Edmund Sears Morgan, the book explores the origins, development, and legacy of this central idea in the religious beliefs and social structures of the Puritan movement. The term ""visible saints"" referred to those individuals who were believed to be the elect, chosen by God for salvation and marked by their outward piety and devotion to the faith. This idea played a crucial role in shaping Puritan society, as it established a strict moral code and hierarchical system based on one's perceived status as a visible saint or not. Morgan traces the evolution of this concept from its roots in Calvinist theology to its application in the Puritan colonies of New England. He examines how the idea of visible saints influenced Puritan politics, economics, and culture, and how it contributed to the formation of a distinct American identity. In addition to its historical analysis, Visible Saints also offers insights into contemporary debates about religion, morality, and identity. It is a valuable resource for scholars of American history, religious studies, and cultural studies, as well as anyone interested in the history of Puritanism and its impact on American society.
