Her research combines textual analysis with a deep understanding of theatrical practices and historical context, providing valuable insights into performance during this significant period. In her work, she investigates the interplay between female characters in Jirí Voskovec and Jan Werich's plays and the traditions of commedia dell'arte, exploring how these historical influences shape contemporary interpretations. In addition to her academic work, Petra is an accomplished actress and director with over thirty years of experience in the performing arts. She has written numerous theatre plays, film scripts, and children’s books, drawing on her extensive background to enhance her work. Her interdisciplinary background enriches her analytical approach, deepening her understanding of performance, cultural history, and the representation of women on stage. Through her diverse expertise, Petra Johansson contributes to discussions in theatre and gender studies, particularly in relation to the legacies of classical forms like commedia dell'arte.
