First published in 1924-two years before Winnie-the-Pooh-A. A. Milne's When We Were Very Young is among the most familiar and cherished works in children's literature. A whimsical celebration of childhood, Milne wrote the collection for his three-year-old son, and the poems have been read and sung to children for decades since. Now, Rosemary Wells brings her signature cast of animal and child characters to a dozen of Milne's best-loved poems, including "Disobedience," "The King's Breakfast," and "Buckingham Palace" (which stars the one and only Christopher Robin). This musical and memorable edition is by turns traditional and modern, with both delightful charm and wry sensibility.

The Red House Mystery (1922) is a detective novel by A. A. Milne. Known more for his series of Winnie-the-Pooh stories and poems for children, Milne also wrote novels and plays for adults, including this successful whodunnit. The Red House Mystery, Milne’s only detective novel, was highly successful upon publication and is noted for its use of an amateur sleuth as well as its intricate, puzzle-like plot. Despite earning the ire of Raymond Chandler, Milne’s novel was reprinted in the U. S. and in Britain numerous times. At his house in the English countryside, Mark Ablett hosts a small party of diverse guests including a widow and her young daughter, a retired military officer, an actress, and a young socialite named Bill Beverley. During this party, Mark’s brother Robert unexpectedly returns home from Australia, where he has been for some time. Shortly after this long-awaited homecoming, Robert is found dead of a gunshot wound to the head, and, amidst the chaos, Mark suddenly disappears. Having arrived late to the party, Tony Gillingham, with the help of his friend Bill Beverley, endeavors to investigate the mysterious events of the evening. Aided, or at least tolerated, by an uninterested police force, Gillingham does his best as an amateur detective to gather evidence leading not only to the identity of Robert’s murderer, but to the discovery of Mark’s whereabouts. The Red House Mystery is an innovative whodunnit filled with humorous quips, twists and turns, and a puzzle with which even the most seasoned reader of mysteries will struggle. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of A. A. Milne’s The Red House Mystery is a classic of British detective fiction reimagined for modern readers.

While he is off fighting with the cruel and egotistical King of Barodia, Merriwig’s daughter, Princess Hyacinth, is left in charge of Euralia. Despite her youth, she possesses both wisdom and a desire to do right by her people. But the Countess Belvane, the king’s mistress, has desires of her own. Jealous of Hyacinth, she hatches a plan to take control of the kingdom, causing mischief for the Princess at every turn. With the help of Prince Udo of Araby—who suffers from a strange enchantment—and his companion Coronel, Princess Hyacinth does her best to take care of Euralia until her father is able to return. Far from the gentle slopes of the Hundred Acre Wood lies The Red House, the setting for A. A Milne's only detective story, where secret passages, uninvited guests, a sinister valet and a puzzling murder lay the foundations for a classic crime caper. A. A. Milne, best known as the author of the classic Winnie-the-Pooh stories, was a successful writer long before his children’s stories launched him to overnight success. Milne himself disliked being relegated as a children’s author. At the age of twenty-three, he was appointed the Assistant Editor of Punch. He claimed ‘I know no work manual or mental to equal the appalling heart-breaking anguish of fetching an idea from nowhere.’ Milne had a talent for regularly turning out a thousand whimsical words on lost hats and umbrellas, tennis, dogs, faulty geysers, dotty maids, women loading film in a camera, the English obsession with rank and titles, cheap cigars, and any amount of life’s other little difficulties. He was praised for being able to produce ‘with apparently effortless ease and the utmost gaiety’ articles notable for their ‘enchanting ingenuity’. But there was another, more serious side to Milne. After serving in World War 1, where he survived the Somme, Milne was invalided home with trench fever in 1916. His experiences made him a committed and vocal pacifist. War was nothing but ‘mental and moral degradation’. His fiercely argued pacifism was ahead of his time, and forms some of his most powerful work.;This selection of Milne’s articles, spanning over four decades of his life from 1910 to 1952, are collected for the first time in this volume, including his passionately argued writings on pacifism. The writings demonstrate his trademark wit, varied genius, little-known political views, and nostalgia for a lost era.
