A. W. Tozer

Two Spiritual Classics in One Volume including The Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan and The Pursuit of God by A. W. Tozer. The Pilgrim's Progress-a famous story of man's progress through life in search of salvation remains one of the most entertaining allegories of faith ever written. Set against realistic backdrops of town and country, the powerful drama of the pilgrim's trials and temptations follows him in his harrowing journey to the Celestial City. Along a road filled with monsters and spiritual terrors, Christian confronts such emblematic characters as Worldly Wiseman, Giant Despair, Talkative, Ignorance, and the demons of the Valley of the Shadow of Death. But he is also joined by Hopeful and Faithful. An enormously influential 17th-century classic, universally known for its simplicity, vigor, and beauty of language, The Pilgrim's Progress remains one of the most widely read books in the English language. In The Pursuit of God, Tozer sheds light on the path to a closer walk with God. This devotional masterpiece is at once thought-provoking and spirit-enlivening, an invitation to think deeply about your faith even as you come alive to God's presence surrounding, sustaining and-yes-pursuing you. This book is a modest attempt, Tozer wrote, "to aid God's hungry children so to find Him." If you are hungry, The Pursuit of God will lead you to the only One who can satisfy the soul. So come, find the insatiable thirst for God which dwells within you as his creature, and find that thirst quenched by God himself, even as it grows with every moment you draw nearer to him and he to you. A book for every child of God, pastor, missionary, and Christian. It deals with the deep things of God and the riches of His grace.

"Are you sure you want to be filled with a Spirit who, though He is like Jesus in His gentleness and love, will nevertheless demand to be Lord of your life?" A. W. TozerThe great tragedy of the human race is that sin has fallen headlong from the mighty purpose that God had created us for. In His mercy, God has provided His followers with a Helper, the Holy Spirit. The role of the Spirit is abysmally overlooked in our churches today. In Relying on the Holy Spirit, Tozer argues for the need for every Christian everywhere to desire earnestly for the filling of the Holy Spirit. Divine power and strength are available in abundance, if only we seek it sincerely enough. The problem, Tozer says, is that we do not desire it-not enough to surrender to the Spirit's Lordship, in unquestioning obedience. It is a painful surrender, total and inclusive, but it is necessary if the Church is to fulfill the work that her Master requires of her.

Tozer offers piercing insight and practical application to help you make God-honoring, life-giving decisions in a culture that prizes what is evil. You will learn how to ? recognize the tactics of the enemy ? resist temptation ? walk closely and confidently with God The influence of this world is great, but we serve a God greater still. The story of pity and mercy and redeeming love are all here in two words: "He came."- A. W. Tozer The Christian view of life is that we are living in the shadow of a crisis made by mankind, caused by his spurious rejection of God. And that God comes, with unfathomable humility, as Man to fix it. In Divine Humility, Tozer, revered preacher, puts forth the foundational ideas of redemption: -Humanity was created for a supreme and glorious purpose by its Creator-We rebelled against that divine purpose-This rejection caused a deep rift to open up between Creator and creature, a rift we could not hope to breach-God, in indescribable mercy and grace, took our punishment upon Himself in the Incarnation-The only appropriate response for any sinful man is to receive this gift and begin a right relationship with his Maker.

"A large part of Christian experience consists of exchanging something worse for something better, a blessed and delightful bargain indeed." - A. W. Tozer We sing God's praises and we go to church every Sunday and we tithe and we read our Bibles and pray... But why do we do it all? Do we do it with the thoughtful understanding of the immensity of God, and the great privilege that God in His mercy has handed to us? Do we do it with the trembling sense of awe that characterized so many followers of Christ? In short, do we truly serve God? A. W. Tozer calls us to examine our hearts and actions and re-orient them in the light of the Bible's teachings about God and eternity. In Serving God, Tozer explains the true purpose of man, and advises us to wisely consider how we live out our brief time on a sin-cursed earth. Life on this Earth is not simply something to be enjoyed, though enjoyment exists and is waiting to be grasped. It is not meant to be lived in comfort, though God offers comfort, and so much more, to those who are willing to seek it-and Him-aright.

"Sin is never a thing to be proud of. No act is wise that ignores remote consequences, and sin always does. How wise is the man who has made the God of Jacob his hope and has taken refuge in the Rock of Ages " - A. W. TozerObedience. The word we don't want to hear, and we'd much rather not talk about. And yet, it is the heart of the Christian life. Salvation and obedience, Saviour and Lord-two sides of the same coin. To receive Christ as Saviour is to submit to Him without regard of the consequences. The world would call it foolishness. Tozer, however, thinks it the greatest wisdom of all. If all of eternity exists before us, and our singular earthly life determines the nature of our life in the next, what grave danger are we win, if we persist in digging, shovelling, working, so hard, to get a reward that will surely burn when Christ comes? In Obedience to Christ, Tozer attempts to breathe heaven into our lungs.

Anything short of complete devotion to Christ is inadequate and must end in futility and loss.- A. W. TozerThere is no receiving Christ without the Cross, no receiving Christianity without surrender, no receiving God without full obedience. Christianity has been watered down a cheap, inferior substitute of what God means for it to be. The idea of 'accepting' Jesus has shifted from revolutionary attachment to an impulsive decision, painless and without cost-and with no concept of discipleship. The choice for anyone who claims to be a Christian is simple. Actually, there is no choice, says Tozer in True Discipleship. A Christian follows Christ. There is no alternative. The purpose of redemption was to restore mankind to its former closeness with God. The goal of every Christian must be an increasingly intimate acquaintance with Him. We must recapture the hope of His returning, and that hope must lift our lives beyond the earthly. With God as our refuge and the source of our strength, and with our eyes on our heavenly future and the promise of Christ's coming, we must yearn to please our Savior and Lord.

What Does It Mean to Truly Worship the Lord? Worship is central to our relationship with God. Yet it is more than just singing in church on Sunday morning and going through the motions. God himself shows us examples of true worship in the Bible. Knowing the importance and power of worshiping God, A. W. Tozer preached on the topic regularly throughout his life. Here, for the first time in print, are his thoughts on what it really means to praise and honor God for who He is. Digging into Scripture, Tozer reveals how understanding God's character directly impacts and deepens both our worship of Him and our relationship with Him. The worship we begin here on earth should have its roots in heaven--and how we worship today will prepare us to worship God Almighty throughout eternity.
