Several materials have been used over the years for the fabrication of removable complete dentures (CD). Bone, wood, ivory, porcelain, metals and polymers have been utilized for the fabrication of CDs with Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) being the most widely used. The advancement in dental material technology led to the improvement in the fabrication method of PMMA denture bases. Various methods are available for the fabrication of PMMA CD bases using heat, auto, light, microwave polymerization, rapid prototyping or computer numeric control (CNC) milling. Denture base adaptation can be influenced by the amount of polymerization shrinkage that occurs during the processing method of fabrication. CAD/CAM dentures milled from prepolymerized PMMA acrylic resin blocks theoretically have reduced or no polymerization shrinkage. There have been no clinical studies, to date, that have compared retention values between milled and conventionally processed denture bases. CAD/CAM milled denture base (AvaDent). Each denture base was subjected to a vertical pulling force three times at 10-minute intervals.

Rehabilitation of partially and completely edentulous patients with implant-supported prosthesis has become a widely accepted treatment option. The conventional Branemark system involves loading of the implants after 4-6 months of placement. This obvious disadvantage of the procedure leaves the patient with no teeth or with a removable temporary prosthesis, and hence, many patients, at times, do not choose this option at all. Dental implants, when placed in the basal bone, can be immediately loaded with teeth, as this bone is very strong, never gets resorbed throughout the life, and forms the stress-bearing part of our skeleton. Since the cortical walls around the extraction site are stable at the time of extraction, placement of implants into fresh extraction sockets is more successful than placement after few months. Basal implants are the devices of the first choice, whenever augmentations are part of an alternative treatment plan. The technique of basal implantology solves all problems connected with conventional implantology. It is a practitioner-oriented therapy, which meets the demands of the patients ideally.

Bonding between the tooth and the prosthesis is very much important for the longevity of the prosthesis. Ever since composite came into play in dentistry, bonding agents have gained a greater level of popularity, since adhesion to the enamel and dentin is of prime importance in the restorative dentistry. With the introduction of the acid etching into clinical practice, various dentin bonding agents were developed to improve the quality of the restoration. In the aim of simplifying the bonding procedure, various authors attempted to develop new bonding agents thereby improving the quality of the bonding and ultimately leading to improved durability of the restoration. The new adhesive systems also can be attributed to their ability to eliminate postoperative sensitivity, improve marginal seal and enhance the flow of resin into fissure. There are different generations in bonding agents, owing their own advantages and disadvantages. Bonding agents keep on evolving to meet the standards of the advancing trends of dentistry. In this book, we have discussed in detail the progressing generations of bonding agents and their recent advances in the field of Prosthodontics.
