The aim of teaching Geography is that it provides mental discipline which means that the subject trains the pupils whole mode of thought which in its turn influences his intellectual life and studies in the same field. Geography encourages independence in thought and action. An independent person will come to his conclusions only after thoughtful deliberations. Geography teachers are at an advantageous position to develop this type of thinking by encouraging pupil's participation in the learning process. A student of Geography can appreciate the beauty of nature better which might cultivate a sense of responsibility for its care and protection. The Geography teachers should help his pupil to discover his qualities, take pride in his talents and build his character to enable him to find satisfaction in his achievement.

Sustainable Development is one of the contemporary issues of the modern era. In present day there are so many problems arises in World such as illiteracy, poverty, hunger, malnutrition, epidemic, violence, narrow politics, fascism, racism, terrorism, ill-health, loss of biodiversity, deforestation, climate change, desertification, global warming and so on. Scientists, educationists, philosophers, environmentalists are very much concerned about those problems and try to find out the way of the solution of problem. Education for sustainable development is comprehensive ideas to acquire knowledge, skill, values and attitude to make world safer, healthier and more prosperous. Rabindranath Tagore is one of the greatest well-known personalities of the world who focused on multi-purpose role of education which has been reflected in his thoughts, ideologies, poems, songs, drama and his institution Visva-Bharati. Tagore was very conscious about socio-cultural, economic and environmental phenomena of living beings and he gave too much importance in the field of education.
