Alan Moore

Minne hän meni? Pois. Mitä hän teki? Kaikkea. Halo Jones on pitkästynyt. Halo Jonesin balladi on edelleen olennainen lukukokemus."

NOT FOR THE NERVOUS! Celebrating 40 years since IPC launched the UK's most iconic 'horror' anthology, this single volume collects all of the strips included in the 15-issue run of Scream! Produced 'from the depths' of King's Reach Tower by the mysterious 'undead' editor Ghastly McNasty, the first issue of Scream! was unleashed on 24th March 1984. More tongue-in-cheek than horrific, the comic was an immediate hit with younger fans as it included a pair of fake vampire fangs attached to the cover and a number of fantastic new strips from such talents as Alan Moore, John Wagner, Jose Ortiz, Cam Kennedy, Tom Tully, Alan Grant and Eric Bradbury.

An examination of the myths of the Moon goddess and how she appeared to the original creators of those myths in ancient Greece. Waxing and waning and reborn with each new month, the Moon has always been the supreme symbol of cyclical change in the western world. Metaphorical representations of the Moon's goddess also seem to undergo similar changes, each new century reinventing her in its own image. For Hesiod, she was a distant figure in the celestial pantheon, to Keats she was an intimate muse; Selene's recurring role in music, literature, and song is a powerful testament to our continued fascination with her myth. A deeply erudite and meticulously researched survey, this book explores the perennial curiosity our closest orbital neighbor continues to instill, providing at once an unprecedented body of historical research and a critical armature for the author's lauded prose reverie Somnium. Despite the importance of the Moon to recent developments in esoteric scholarship and mythography, Selene doesn't attempt to present a "Moon-Goddess for the twenty-first century," but rather looks at the myths of one specific Moon goddess and how she appeared to the original creators of those myths in the literature of ancient Greece. In doing so, Selene marks the point at which classical scholarship comes closest to a physical embrace with its ethereal subject matter.

Dark Horses is an anthology of science-fiction by Friends of the Arts Lab, FOALs for short. All writers have attended Arts Lab events organised by Arts Labs from around the UK. Arts Labs were a Sixties cultural phenomenon, and from them came many well-known creators including David Bowie and Alan Moore. Most of the writers of this anthology are from the Northampton Arts Lab, which was ressurected in 2016 following an event to discuss counter-culture at Northampton University, which featured guests including Alan Moore, Robin Ince, Josie Long, Francesca Martinez, Scroobius Pip, John Higgs, and Grace Petrie. Attendees were encouraged by the idea of collaborating on lots of different artistic projects in the manner of their Sixties predecessors, and to date the friends have created fanzines, comics, sketches, and plays, and organised poetry and comedy events. Contributors include Alan Moore, Alistair Fruish, Sophie Sparham, Kev Rooney, The Spence Brothers, KB Willson, James Milton, Yoshe, Laura Roklicer, K. S. Dearsley, Michel Louis, Tom Clarke, Tom Jordan, Joshua Spiller and me. Cover art by Scott Jeffery. There are stories about post-apocalyptic house choices, vengeful robots, sentient waste-fed microscopic creatures taking over, murderous social media, dissolved languages, time-looping assassins, and more

A revised edition of Phil Baker's critically lauded biography of artist and occultist, Austin Osman Spare. London has harbored many curious characters, but few more curious than the artist and visionary Austin Osman Spare (1886-1956). A controversial enfant terrible of the Edwardian art world, the young Spare was hailed as a genius and a new Aubrey Beardsley, while George Bernard Shaw reportedly said "Spare's medicine is too strong for the average man." But Spare was never made for worldly success and he went underground, falling out of the gallery system to live in poverty and obscurity south of the river. Absorbed in occultism and sorcery, voyaging into inner dimensions, and surrounding himself with cats and familiar spirits, he continued to produce extraordinary art while developing a magical philosophy of pleasure, obsession, and the subjective nature of reality. Today Spare is both forgotten and famous, a cult figure whose modest life has been much mythologized since his death. This groundbreaking biographical study offers wide-ranging insights into Spare's art, mind and world, reconnecting him with the art history that ignored him and exploring his parallel London; a bygone place of pub pianists, wealthy alchemists, and monstrous owls. This richly readable and illuminating biography takes us deep into the strange inner world that this most enigmatic of artists inhabited, shedding new light while allowing just a few shadowy corners to flourish unspoiled. Revised, updated, and with a new afterword by the author, this is the definitive edition of Phil Baker's critically lauded Austin Osman Spare: The Life and Legend of London's Lost Artist.
