- Jens Andersen, Weekendavisen

They also reunite with old friends, such as the Queen Anne of Austria and her loyal servant, Constance Bonacieux. ""Celebrated Crimes V1: The Borgias And The Cenci"" is a historical non-fiction book written by the renowned French author, Alexandre Dumas. The book is divided into two parts, the first part is about the infamous Borgia family, and the second part is about the tragic story of the Cenci family. In the first part, Dumas chronicles the rise of the Borgia family to power in Renaissance Italy. He details the life of the patriarch, Rodrigo Borgia, who became Pope Alexander VI, and his children, Cesare and Lucrezia. Dumas explores the family's notorious reputation for their ruthless tactics, including murder, bribery, and incest, to maintain their power. The second part of the book tells the story of the Cenci family, a wealthy and influential family in 16th-century Italy. Dumas recounts the tragic events that led to the family's downfall, including the abusive behavior of the patriarch, Francesco Cenci, and the plot by his daughter, Beatrice, to murder him. The family's trial and execution are also described in detail. Throughout the book, Dumas uses his signature storytelling style to bring these historical events to life. He provides vivid descriptions of the characters, their motivations, and the political and social context of their time. ""Celebrated Crimes V1: The Borgias And The Cenci"" is a fascinating read for anyone interested in Renaissance Italy, the history of the papacy, or true crime stories.
