Nestarejuschij roman o velikoj ljubvi i strashnoj tragedii. Sjuzhet romana javilsja osnovoj dlja odnoimennoj pesy, kotoraja vposledstvii mnogokratno ekranizirovalas i poslu-zhila libretto k genialnoj opere Dzhuzeppe Verdi "Traviata". Roman o ljubvi prekrasnoj, smertelno bolnoj "korole-vy polusveta" i junogo aristokrata - ljubvi strastnoj, tragi-cheskoj, zavedomo obrechennoj - ne ustupaet po dramatizmu "Traviate" i prevoskhodit dazhe luchshie ekranizatsii.

Tak schital velikij rasskazchik i truzhenik Aleksandr Djuma, prozhivshij zhizn jarkuju, nasyschennuju, interesnuju, kotoroj on schedro delilsja s druzjami-chitateljami i togda, i sejchas. V novyj tom illjustrirovannogo sobranija sochinenij vkljucheny esche dve ostrosjuzhetnye i ne sovsem vydumannye istorii - roman s elementami mistiki "Gospozha de Shamble" i novella s tainstvennoj zhenschinoj v maske "Amazonka".
