Spitfire Photo-Recce Units of World War 2

Spitfire Photo-Recce Units of World War 2

A fascinating exploration of the feats of the RAF’s photographic reconnaissance aircraft. The photographic reconnaissance (PR) versions of the Supermarine Spitfire saw service against the Axis Tripartite throughout World War 2. Its superior performance even led to the USAAF adopting the type for the Eighth Air Force’s reconnaissance needs in Europe. PR Spitfires were responsible for some of the most significant intelligence finds of the war – from low-level oblique photographs of new German radars in France to locating the battleship Bismarck off the Norwegian coast before it attempted to sortie into the Atlantic. It has been estimated that as much as 80 per cent of Allied intelligence was gathered from aerial photographs, many of which were taken by cameras installed in PR Spitfires. In this volume, RAF PR specialist Andrew Fletcher details the important part played by the small number of ‘photo-recce’ Spitfires in the key theatres of World War 2. His detailed text, which includes numerous first-hand accounts, chronicles operations from the first months of the conflict through to VJ Day.

State of the Controversy Betwixt United and Separate Parliaments. Whether These Interests Which are to be United by the Present Treaty
The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. Delve into what it was like to live during the eighteenth century by reading the first-hand accounts of everyday people, including city dwellers and farmers, businessmen and bankers, artisans and merchants, artists and their patrons, politicians and their constituents. Original texts make the American, French, and Industrial revolutions vividly contemporary.++++The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. There's Nothing There, But Nothing Is Really Something
There's nothing there. Kind of a wild claim. I'm not going to give it away here in the introduction. Then you wouldn't have to read the book. It seemed like a reasonable assumption for everyone to make that there was actually something there. I mean, you could see it. The sun. The moon. The planets. Their moons. Other stars. The Milky Way. Eventually, other galaxies. Lots and lots of galaxies. Gazillions. And back here on Earth, all kinds of things. Flowers. Rainbows. Laughing children. Young love. Plus, wars and genocides and tsunamis and lava flow and zits. Reality shows. The Kardashians. There was clearly something there. Turns out, not so much. Everything you think is there is not really there the way that you think it should be. Do all the scientists agree with that observation? Turns out, pretty much. So what do all the scientists think is actually there? Now that's where it gets interesting. You'll enjoy this.

This course-tested textbook conveys the fundamentals of magnetic fields and relativistic plasma in diffuse cosmic media, with a primary focus on phenomena that have been observed at different wavelengths. Theoretical concepts are addressed wherever necessary, with derivations presented in sufficient detail to be generally accessible. In the first few chapters the authors present an introduction to various astrophysical phenomena related to cosmic magnetism, with scales ranging from molecular clouds in star-forming regions and supernova remnants in the Milky Way, to clusters of galaxies. Later chapters address the role of magnetic fields in the evolution of the interstellar medium, galaxies and galaxy clusters. The book is intended for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students in astronomy and physics and will serve as an entry point for those starting their first research projects in the field.

There may be just two great questions in life - why am I here, and why is there suffering? In seeking answers to those questions, believers and skeptics alike have reduced God and the character and our understanding of God into neat, pointless little boxes into which neither God nor the universe fit. In seeking resolution, can it be found in science, nature, and the universe itself? Does the universe hold clues to the nature of God, and can it point in the direction of solving both the question of life's meaning and purpose, and the existence of evil and suffering? This is a beautifully and powerfully written book of science and faith, seamlessly woven together not so much to provide answers as to break believers and skeptics out of their metaphysical, theological, and scientific ruts.

Andrew Fletcher of Saltoun (1653–1716) was one of the most acute observers of the European political order of his time, and an important forerunner of the Scottish Enlightenment. Famous in his own day and since for his patriotic opposition to the Anglo-Scottish Union of 1707, Fletcher was an admirer of the ancients and a student of Machiavelli, who would adapt Machiavelli's strictly political concepts of a world increasingly shaped by commerce. His works address the fate of small nations dominated by larger, the advantages and disadvantages of great capital cities, and the prospects for new forms of political union which would be to the benefit of all of Europe's regions. This book is the first complete modern edition of Fletcher's works. The editor's introduction draws on research into Fletcher's life and thought, and the annotated text enables readers to appreciate the range and sharpness of Fletcher's analysis.
