Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is widely prevalent problem with significant medical, psychological and social consequences that are deleterious to the quality of life and potentially lethal. The consequences of having untreated sleep apnea are severe; it leads to increased morbidity and mortality. Prompt recognition and referral for treatment will help minimize life-threatening complications. In addition to early recognition, recent development in diagnosis and management of obstructive sleep apnea has also led to involvement of dental profession, in particular the orthodontist and oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
