Reliability Analysis of Dynamic Systems
Featuring aerospace examples and applications, Reliability Analysis of Dynamic Systems presents the very latest probabilistic techniques for accurate and efficient dynamic system reliability analysis. While other books cover more broadly the reliability techniques and challenges related to large systems, Dr Bin Wu presents a focused discussion of new methods particularly relevant to the reliability analysis of large aerospace systems under harmonic loads in the low frequency range. Developed and written to help you respond to challenges such as non-linearity of the failure surface, intensive computational costs and complexity in your dynamic system, Reliability Analysis of Dynamic Systems is a specific, detailed and application-focused reference for engineers, researchers and graduate students looking for the latest modeling solutions. The Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press Aerospace Series publishes titles that cover the latest advances in research and development in aerospace. Its scope includes theoretical studies, design methods, and real-world implementations and applications. The readership for the series is broad, reflecting the wide range of aerospace interest and application, but focuses on engineering. Forthcoming titles in the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press Aerospace Series: Reliability Analysis of Dynamic Systems • Wake Vortex Control • Aeroacoustics: Fundamentals and Applications in Aeropropulsion Systems • Computational Intelligence in Aerospace Design • Unsteady Flow and Aeroelasticity in Turbomachinery

The book presents the latest power conversion and control technology in modern wind energy systems. It has nine chapters, covering technology overview and market survey, electric generators and modeling, power converters and modulation techniques, wind turbine characteristics and configurations, and control schemes for fixed- and variable-speed wind energy systems. The book also provides in-depth steady-state and dynamic analysis of squirrel cage induction generator, doubly fed induction generator, and synchronous generator based wind energy systems. To illustrate the key concepts and help the reader tackle real-world issues, the book contains more than 30 case studies and 100 solved problems in addition to simulations and experiments. The book serves as a comprehensive reference for academic researchers and practicing engineers. It can also be used as a textbook for graduate students and final year undergraduate students.
Marginalisation in China

Marginalisation in China

Economic transition in China has witnessed (re)centralization of resources from the margin to the core in economic, social and political senses. This book employs a marginalization lens to reveal, delineate and better understand the processes, patterns, trends, multiple dimensions and dynamics of the phenomenon, and the consequences and implications for development and well-being in the country. Bringing together a wide range of domestic and international experts and disciplinary perspectives, the book combines empirical research and conceptual analysis to provide an insightful overview of China's recent development. It contributes to the debate over marginalization and its interactions with globalization and transition in China, and has significance for various domestic and international policy arenas in respect of tackling marginalization, poverty and social exclusion effectively while striving for the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals in China and beyond.
Sustainable Development in Rural China
Sustainable development in marginal areas, especially in those where rural poverty and environmental degradation are interwoven, is a great concern of development agencies worldwide, and much effort is put into development programmes, technology transfer schemes and so on. The problem is particularly acute in China, where increasing regional differences and inequality are eroding governmental poverty reduction efforts and exacerbating ecological crises. This book, based on extensive original research, examines the situation in China, especially in the Loess Plateau of Shaanxi Province. It explores in particular how farmers have organised themselves to initiate technical innovation, and considers communication networks and co-operative mechanisms. It discusses successful self-organisation, and how interfaces with external development agencies and with institutional innovation might be handled, highlighting the potential of farmer innovation initiatives, especially when they are linked with external development and environmental improvement programmes.
Handbook of Manufacturing and Supply Systems Design
Manufacturing Systems Management (MSM) is a functional domain that involves all of the activities for regulating and optimizing a manufacturing system as it progresses through its life cycle. These include the tasks of strategic analysis, design, implementation, operations and monitoring. Handbook of Manufacturing and Supply Systems Design: From Strategy Formulation to System Operation proposes a conceptual MSM framework based on some key principles of systems theory, which draws extensively on the relevant methodologies and techniques set out in the literature and on data gathered from industrial practice. This framework specifies the key functional areas of MSM, outlines the contents and relationships between them, and then logically integrates them in a closed-loop to allow the development of a set of consistent parameters and procedures. It enables an understanding of the problem domain, and provides guidance for the development of a set of consistent parameters and procedures. The handbook describes how a prototype of this framework has been used in the structuring and implementation of a computer-aided manufacturing system design environment. The application of certain key aspects of this framework within a number of industrial companies is also described. This sets the scene for a new generation of on-line manufacturing software systems, and should provide the knowledge to manage system design or re-design projects more effectively. Also included is a self-contained workbook, which provides a step-by-step guide through the complete cycle of manufacturing systems management, manufacturing systems design and manufacturing systems operation. Senior undergraduates and graduates students, as well as manufacturing engineers, should find this an up-to-date and thorough text.
