Metamaterial Design and Additive Manufacturing covers optimization design, manufacturing, microstructure, mechanical properties, acoustic properties, mass-transport properties and application examples of PMs fabricated by selective laser melting additive manufacturing technology. The book introduces the definition and concept of pentamode metamaterials and then describes their characterization, including manufacturing fidelity, mechanical response, acoustic properties and so on. Final sections analyze research situations, problems and applications of additive manufacturing pentamode metamaterials.

Herein, "the harmony among and within the human groups"will be discussed theoretically. The "harmony" mentioned here refers to the state in which the group members are in their own proper place, get along with one another peacefully, and have occasional conflicts among them that can get resolved in a timely manner. Meanwhile, the root causes of conflicts among and within the human groups are also analyzed, and against which possible theoretical solutions are proposed --- The human group members should advocate positive energy as the authority, remain conscientious and believe in love. Some of the author's what-if analyses herein are intended to urge people to be conscientious and obedient to rules. And the deep-seated causes which result in an imbalance of social order are explored herein, for which the original intention is to, by presenting facts and evidence, prove that people's conscience and self-discipline are the cornerstones of social order. At the same time, spiritual belief is the foundation for people to stick to their conscience. People should always be in awe and do good deeds as possible they could. And only in this way can society, from the family level to the country level, be harmonious. The author believes such theoretical exploration to be conducive to creating a social atmosphere filled with integrity, friendliness, and harmony.

Selective Laser Melting for Metal Matrix Composites explains in detail the essential preparation and characterization methods for this technology, and explores a range of innovative applications. The subject covered by this book has been the focus of increasing levels of research both in industry and academia globally. The authors have drawn on their influential cutting-edge research to provide a much-needed guide for those investigating or applying this technology. The novel material preparation methodologies addressed here provide new opportunities to expand the applications of additive manufacturing, particularly in industries such as aerospace, medical, automotive, and electronics. These applications, as well as the theory behind this technology are also covered in this book, providing a complete guide which is appropriate for engineers in industry as well as researchers.
Split Hopkinson (Kolsky) Bar

Split Hopkinson (Kolsky) Bar

Weinong W. Chen; Bo Song

Springer-Verlag New York Inc.

The authors systematically describe the general principles of Kolsky bars, or split Hopkinson bars, which are widely used for obtaining dynamic material properties. Modifications are introduced for obtaining reliable data. Specific experiment design guidelines are provided to subject the specimen to desired testing conditions. Detailed Kolsky-bar examples are given for different classes of materials (brittle, ductile, soft, etc) and for different loading conditions (tension, torsion, triaxial, high/low temperatures, intermediate strain rate, etc). The Kolsky bars used for dynamic structural characterization are briefly introduced. A collection of dynamic properties of various materials under various testing conditions is included which may serve as a reference database. This book assists both beginners and experienced professionals in characterizing high-rate material response with high quality and consistency. Readers who may benefit from this work include university students, instructors, R & D professionals, and scholars/engineers in solid mechanics, aerospace, civil and mechanical engineering, as well as materials science and engineering.
