L'homme pense, l'homme veut. Or, derriere l'apparente banalite de ces actes, une question se pose: comment ont-ils lieu? Outre l'ame, il faudrait faire droit a des facultes, ou des puissances en l'ame, rendant possibles nos actes psychiques. Mais alors, est-ce l'homme qui pense et veut, ou des puissances en lui? Autrement demande: ces puissances s'identifient-elles a l'ame, ou bien sont-elles en celle-ci a titre d'accidents? Les Medievaux s'interrogerent sur la maniere dont les puissances proviennent de l'ame, sans s'en distinguer radicalement.
