Brian Johnson

One of SPIN'S Best Music Memoirs of 2022 Brian Johnson's memoir from growing up in a small town to starting his own band to ultimately replacing Bon Scott, the lead singer of one of the world biggest rock acts, AC/DC. They would record their first album together, the iconic Back in Black, which would become the biggest selling rock album of all time. Brian Johnson was born to a steelworker and WWII veteran father and an Italian mother, growing up in New Castle Upon Tyne, England, a working-class town. He was musically inclined and sang with the church choir. By the early '70s he performed with the glam rock band Geordie, and they had a couple hits, but it was tough going. So tough that by 1976, they disbanded and Brian turned to a blue-collar life. Then 1980 changed everything. Bon Scott, the lead singer and lyricist of the Australian rock band AC/DC died at 33. The band auditioned singers, among them Johnson, whom Scott himself had seen perform and raved about. Within days, Johnson was in a studio with the band, working with founding members Angus and Malcolm Young, Cliff Williams, and Phil Rudd, along with producer Mutt Lange. When the album, Back in Black, was released in July--a mere three months after Johnson had joined the band--it exploded, going on to sell 50 million copies worldwide, and triggering a years-long worldwide tour. It has been declared "the biggest selling hard rock album ever made" and "the best-selling heavy-metal album in history." The band toured the world for a full year to support the album, changing the face of rock music--and Brian Johnson's life--forever.

A modern, comprehensive introduction to DRAM for students and practicing chip designers Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) technology has been one of the greatestdriving forces in the advancement of solid-state technology. With its ability to produce high product volumes and low pricing, it forces solid-state memory manufacturers to work aggressively to cut costs while maintaining, if not increasing, their market share. As a result, the state of the art continues to advance owing to the tremendous pressure to get more memory chips from each silicon wafer, primarily through process scaling and clever design. From a team of engineers working in memory circuit design, DRAM Circuit Design gives students and practicing chip designers an easy-to-follow, yet thorough, introductory treatment of the subject. Focusing on the chip designer rather than the end user, this volume offers expanded, up-to-date coverage of DRAM circuit design by presenting both standard and high-speed implementations. Additionally, it explores a range of topics: the DRAM array, peripheral circuitry, global circuitry and considerations, voltage converters, synchronization in DRAMs, data path design, and power delivery. Additionally, this up-to-date and comprehensive book features topics in high-speed design and architecture and the ever-increasing speed requirements of memory circuits. The only book that covers the breadth and scope of the subject under one cover, DRAM Circuit Design is an invaluable introduction for students in courses on memory circuit design or advanced digital courses in VLSI or CMOS circuit design. It also serves as an essential, one-stop resource for academics, researchers, and practicing engineers.

The Black Raven is a grimoire composed in German-speaking lands sometime in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century. Appearing at first glance to be a typically eclectic assortment of conjurations and ritual directions, upon closer analysis this humble volume is revealed to comprise a cohesive toolkit for the treasure-hunting nigromancer: presenting conjurational means for both petitioning devilish lords of earthly riches and laying the ghosts who haunted their troves, as well as planetary spiritwork for best timing such endeavours. Indeed, if the books they left behind are any indication, the recovery of hidden treasure was among the most ubiquitous pursuits of medieval and early modern magicians. Given the widespread assumption that such immured valuables were likely to be guarded by malevolent spirits, it stood to reason that the methods of ritual exorcism, with their protective invocations and banishing execrations, would be ideally suited to clearing the practitioners' path to wealth, perhaps even inducing the cooperation of those same spirits. But the deceptions and diversions of infernal demons were not the only obstacle between such treasure hunters and a buried hoard; often the shade of its deceased owner also haunted the vicinity, trapped by the very riches which they had failed to divest in life. It was for this reason that grimoires such as the present nigromantic handbook, along with no few others of the Germanic "Faustian" genre, included protocols for liberating the restless dead from their earthly fetters in pursuit of liberating their property for the use of the living. The text of the Black Raven is presented here in English translation for the first time, along with a transcription and facsimile of the original German manuscript. In addition, framing essays by Alexander Cummins and Brian Johnson place this conjurer's vade mecum within the context of early modern ghostlore, folk nigromancy, and the Faustian grimoiric corpus.

Brian Johnson, sångaren i AC/DC, ger äntligen ut sina memoarer.
