Tämä vaikuttava kirja johdattaa lukijan Itämeren lumoavimmille hylyille. Meri kätkee sisäänsä lähes 100000 alusta, joista monet ovat säilyneet hämmästyttävän koskemattomina. Kylmä vesi ja laivamatojen puuttuminen ovat suojelleet hylkyjä tavalla, joten Itämeri tarjoaa sukeltajille kiehtovan aarrearkun: 1600-luvun sotalaivoja, 1700-luvun kauniita puualuksia, 1800-luvun rahtilaivoja ja toisen maailmansodan aikaisia sotalaivoja. Uponneilla aluksilla aika on pysähtynyt.

Reimagining architectural drawing as a full-scale, bodily, and spatial practice, Marian Macken and Carl Douglas explore how architects perceive and shape space through drawing, positioning the body not just as a subject but as an active tool for design. Bodies and Space in Architectural Drawing challenges conventional scale relationships and advocates for full-scale, performative drawing methods that expand the boundaries of architectural practice. Drawing becomes a verb—inhabited, present, and embodied—redefining how space is measured, represented, and understood. The authors examine diverse approaches to architectural drawing, including motion-capture and wearable technologies, movement-based drawing, and the role of time and duration. They highlight how drawing can be inhabited by both the drawer and the viewer, offering a dynamic, immersive experience. Through case studies and examples, the book reinstates drawing as a spatial, temporal, and bodily act. Crucially, this book reframes the role of scaled artefacts—models, maps, and drawings—as intermediaries that mobilise architectural thinking. Rather than treating the body as a static reference point, it explores how moving, thinking bodies generate and reside within drawings. This is essential reading for students, practitioners, and researchers in architecture and spatial design seeking to rethink drawing as a performative and conceptual tool
Gustaf Douglas built one of Sweden’s greatest fortunes – not from inherited wealth, despite his upbringing in high aristocracy with castles and field marshals in the family, but through 40 years of dramatic business ventures at the heart of Swedish industry. In his memoirs, he openly and revealingly recounts a dark childhood marked by bullying, “educational advice” and low self-confidence. However, his intellect, defiance and relentless drive for revenge propelled him on an extraordinary life journey. After being fired as CEO of the Dagens Nyheter group, he began building his own business empire, creating some of Sweden’s largest companies – global giants like Securitas and Assa Abloy. The risks were high, with several “near death” experiences in business, yet he always found a way to rise again. Family, art, books and experiences of nature provided strength when everything seemed lost. With sharp wit and self-reflection, Gustaf Douglas shares insights into the business world’s closed-door negotiations, where the biggest and smallest players in industry and politics navigate the game. His reflections culminate in a philosophy of ownership that values long-term thinking, belief in human potential, and a world-view shaped by humanism and deep humility towards the fate we all must wrestle with – life itself. This book has become a classic in Swedish business literature, and the English edition was published following Gustaf Douglas’s passing in 2023.

DC-3:an var borta.
The sea has always held a special fascination. It carried people to new continents and enabled trade and progress. But the sea, dark and stormy, also represented a threat to human life. This book is a dramatic, tempestuous, glorious journey through art history. Spectacular paintings have transformed shipwrecks into powerful metaphors for human vulnerability. These works depict fear and bravery, hope and desperation, life and death – and people’s struggle against immense danger. Rocky coastlines and gales can reduce human ambitions to splinters. Following on from his successful titles Ghost Ships and Shipwreck, also published by Max Ström, author and historian Carl Douglas has joined forces with marine archaeologist Björn Hagberg and science journalist Martin Widman to create this magnificent volume. They take the reader on a journey spanning several centuries, from medieval mythical disasters via Romantic tragedies to shipwrecks in the contemporary realist era. The introduction is written by Christine Riding, head of the curatorial department at London’s National Gallery.

This magnificent book is the largest ever created on the subject, the format is 48 x 35 centimeters and the weight is almost five kilos. Printed in a limited edition of 1000 with over 100 exceptional images presented as never before alongside text by historian and diver Carl Douglas and marine archaeologist Björn Hagberg.
