This book introduces a bold new framework for understanding the digital age: an emerging system in which power and profit flow from the ownership and control of data. Moving beyond traditional critiques of Big Tech, the book argues that we are witnessing a fundamental shift from capitalism – based on factories and physical resources – to datalism, where human experience itself becomes the primary raw material of economic value. Through vivid examples and accessible analysis, the book explores how platforms, artificial intelligence and digital infrastructures extract, process and monetise data at unprecedented scale. It examines the implications for labour, competition and global power, showing how individuals increasingly contribute value without recognition or reward. Bridging rigorous research with engaging storytelling, this book provides readers with a powerful lens to understand the forces reshaping economies, societies and governance in the 21st century.

Digital transformation is the linchpin of a sustainable and resilient future. Adapt, innovate and thrive in the face of disruption by integrating advanced technologies and sustainable practices with this essential guide. Today's business leaders are navigating uncharted waters, tasked with balancing profitability, stakeholder expectations and the urgent need to address global sustainability challenges. While digital technologies are revolutionizing industries, many leaders remain unprepared to harness their full potential for sustainable impact. Digital Sustainability fills this critical gap by exploring how digital transformation can be a powerful enabler of sustainability. It goes beyond the buzzwords of ESG and DEI to offer strategies for integrating digital tools and systems into sustainable business practices. Covering innovative topics such as real-time analytics, AI-powered tools and automation, Digital Sustainability includes actionable insights and deep analysis with real-world examples. Focusing on practical, scalable strategies that corporate leaders can adopt immediately, this book will be less about 'why' and more about 'how' leaders can implement digital technologies into their sustainability practices. Through robust, ready-to-use frameworks, this book equips leaders to navigate the challenges of digital transformation while ensuring their organizations thrive in a world increasingly defined by environmental and societal constraints.

Sustainable Engineering: Principles and Implementation provides a comprehensive overview of the interdisciplinary field of sustainability as it applies to engineering and methods for implementation of sustainable practices. Due to increasing constraints on resources and on the environment and effects of climate change, engineers are being faced with new challenges. While it is generally believed that the concepts of sustainable design must be adhered to so that future generations may be protected, the execution and practice of these concepts are very difficult. It is therefore the focus of this book to give both a conceptual understanding as well as practical skills to apply sustainable engineering principles to engineering design. This book introduces relevant theory, principles, and ethical expectations for engineers, presents concepts related to industrial ecology, green engineering, and eco-design, and details frameworks that indicate the challenges and constraints of applying sustainable development principles. It describes the tools, protocols, and guidelines that are currently available through case studies and examples from around the world. The book is designed to be used by undergraduate and graduate students in any engineering program (with particular emphasis on civil, environmental and chemical engineering) and other programs in which sustainability is taught, in addition to practicing scientists and engineers and all others concerned with the sustainability of products, projects and processes. Specific Features: Discusses sources of contaminants and their impact on the environment Addresses sustainable assessment techniques, policies, protocols and guidelines Describes new tools and technologies for achieving sustainable engineering Includes social and economic sustainability dimensions Offers case studies demonstrating implementation of sustainable engineering practices

IMS Application Developer’s Handbook gives a hands-on view of exactly what needs to be done by IMS application developers to develop an application and take it "live" on an operator’s network. It offers practical guidance on building innovative applications using the features and capabilities of the IMS network, and shows how the rapidly changing development environment is impacting on the business models employed in the industry and how existing network solutions can be moved towards IMS. Elaborating on how IMS applies basic VoIP principles and techniques to realize a true multi-access, and multimedia network, this book ensures that developers know how to use IMS most effectively for applications. Written by established experts in the IMS core network and IMS service layer, with roots in ISDN and GSM, with experience from working at Ericsson, who have been active in standardisation and technology development and who have been involved in many customer projects for the implementation of fixed mobile converged IMS network and service. The authors of this book bring their in-depth and extensive knowledge in the organizations involved in the IMS standardization and its architecture.
