Refining Tarot guidance by acknowledging the influence of reader, setting, and environment • Includes 86 full-color cards, expanding the traditional Major and Minor Arcana with the Hidden Arcana, all infused with ancient symbolism • Showcases 8 rediscovered Arcana cards—the Adeptus, the Spiritrix, the Almuten Figuris, and 5 castle cards of the realms—revealing the influence of reader, setting, and the elements on a reading • Shares several tarot spreads for new readings, including the Pilgrimage of the Soul and Thread of Destiny More than a divination tool, this stunning deck and guidebook illuminate the deep connections between the Tarot, the universe’s rhythms, and the human psyche. The Hidden Arcana Tarot reveals eight long-lost Arcana cards with mythic resonance to powerfully guide the interpretation of the traditional Major and Minor Arcana. The deck contains 78 traditional Tarot cards and 8 Hidden Arcana cards. The newly rediscovered Arcana include the Adeptus, who represents the consultee on their journey; the Spiritrix, who determines how the reader may be affecting the reading; and the Almuten Figuris, the guide and protector on the path. The five castle cards show the elemental, archetypal forces at play. Infused with ancient symbolism and mythic imagery, these beautifully illustrated cards offer fresh perspectives on life’s journey, meaning, and future twists and turns—and on Tarot reading itself. In the guidebook, studied and intuitive Tarot reader Liane Buck details the meaning of each card with key words and presents several spreads for new readings, including the Pilgrimage of the Soul and Thread of Destiny. The Hidden Arcana Tarot is an invitation to dive deep into your own soul and find your place in the universe’s intricate tapestry.

Religious Myths and Visions of America

Religious Myths and Visions of America

At the heart of American studies is the idea of America itself. Here, Buck looks at the religious significance of America by examining those religions that have attached some kind of spiritual meaning to America. The author explores how American Protestantism-and nine minority faiths-have projected America into the mainstream of world history by defining-and by redefining-America's world role. Surveying the religious myths and visions of America of ten religions, Buck shows how minority faiths have redefined America's sense of national purpose. This book invites serious reflection on what it means to be an American, particularly from a religious perspective. Religious myths of America are thought-orienting narratives that serve as vehicles of spiritual and social truths about the United States itself. Religious visions of America are action-oriented agendas that articulate the goals to which America should aspire and the role it should play in the community of nations. Buck examines the distinctive perspectives held by ten religious traditions that inform and expand on the notion of America, and its place in the world. He covers Native American, Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, Mormon, Christian Identity, Black Muslim, Islamic, Buddhist, and Baha'i beliefs and invites serious reflection on what it means to be an American, particularly from a religious perspective.

Although polls of Hispanic youth show a strong propensity to serve in the military, Hispanics are nonetheless underrepresented among military recruits. The authors discuss the major characteristics that disproportionately disqualify Hispanic youth and explore actions that could be taken to increase Hispanic enlistments.

Comparing paradise imagery in two Persian religions, early Syriac Christianity and the Baha'i Faith, this work contributes to religious studies methodology by introducing "symbolic paradigm analysis." In a novel approach that the author terms "symbolic paradigm analysis," Paradise and Paradigm offers a "theoretically modular" systematic comparison of two "Persian" religions: early Syriac Christianity as the foundation of the East Syrian "Church of the East" (the Nestorian Church of Persia) and the Baha'i Faith, a new world religion. The author compares the hymns of the greatest poet of early Christianity, Saint Ephrem the Syrian, and the richly imagistic writings of the founder of the Baha'i religion, Baha'u'llah. The book employs an original analytic technique in the creation of "symbolic profiles" constructed on Ninian Smart's dimensional model of religion. As Buck skillfully demonstrates, formal similarities between any two religions are best comprehended in terms of paradigmatic differences, which nuance all parallels through a process of symbolic transformation. Buck also shows the communal reflexivity of paradise imagery in representing the ideal faith-community in both traditions.
