Savinien de Cyrano de Bergeracin (1619-1655) muistetaan useimmiten ylivertaisena miekkamiehenä, kärkkäänä kaksintaistelijana ja isonenäisenä runoniekkana. Sellaisena hänet tunnetaan muun muassa Jean-Louis Rappeneaun 1980-luvulla tekemästä elokuvasta, jossa Cyranota näytteli kukapa muu kuin Gérard Depardieu. Oikea Cyrano de Bergerac oli taitava kynänkäyttäjä, ja Matka kuuhun oli hänen tunnetuimpia teoksiaan. Matka kuuhun on kuvia kumartelematon iloittelu ja science fictionin perusteos. Siinä kyseenalaistetaan barokin ajan kirkon ja tieteen maailmankuva ja keskustellaan niin kasvien oikeuksista kuin "universaalista punkkiudestakin".
