This report--the precursor to Planet of Cities--provides policy makers and planners with a conceptual framework for understanding urban expansion and provides research-based suggestions for how to prepare for the sustainable growth of cities in the coming decades. The data, images, metrics, and methodology from Making Room for a Planet of Cities are available in an accompanying subcenter, the Atlas of Urban Expansion.
