Originally published on the 11th, of February 2001 whilst I was a lecturer at Fareham Collage in the UK, and it has gone through various additions and formates, for various reasons. In the first edition the introduction started by stating, 'David Clarke is currently a lecturer at Fareham college teaching electronics, has taught there since 1989. However, since leaving Dover Borstal in 1968 he had a three-year career of undetected crime, until the 16th of January 1970 when he experienced a Christian conversion from crime to follow Christ, whilst suffering from the effects of LSD. Since his conversion he continued his education by learning to read as he was virtually illiterate, by using the bible and classical Christian literature. He then trained to be a lecturer, at Wolverhampton Polytechnic, and graduated with a Cert Ed awarded by Birmingham University, and commenced teaching at Luton college of higher education in 1978. Since that time, he has taught hundreds of students during his 21 years as a lecture at colleges and Higher and Further Education. In 1990 David turned away from God, for a short period of time, in unbelief and went through divorce and a remarriage. However, he returned to God in faith and repentance and since 1994 has spoken to many of his friends all about what Jesus had done for him. In this part of my life I tell of my recovery after a fall into open sin and written as a testimony for any who find themselves in that situation. David believes it is now time to complete student's education he now wishes to make known to all his former friends, and students, and their friends that his bad experience on LSD is nothing compared to what hell is like. He wants to tell them all about the salvation Jesus came to give men and that men may be saved by through faith in Jesus Christ and that like Oskar Schindler, and his list, all that were on that list were saved so to this David has a list of over 250 students and friends who he's seeking and will be contacting shortly as he wishes to persuade them to listen and hear, in full, of all what Jesus has done for him. He says many of his friends have found life difficult and gone through marriage breakups, been made redundant and without work, some are without hope some in drink dry out centres, some are ill and hopeless and some have died. David conducted the funeral of John Sawyer in Titchfield, in 1997 a student of his when he had no one left in the world to help him in his death.

Borstal Boy is a punk rock opera of the true story as told in the book Converted on LSD and Borstal Boys. It tells of two brothers Michael and David Clarke who were born in Oldham. They became criminals in the 60's and were sent to prison for malicious wounding and carrying a fire arm without a license. Michael, the elder brother, served time in HMP Maidstone prison and had a great influence over David even when he served his time in Dover Borstal. On there release from prison David had a three year career of undetected crime until he was arrested, but not by the police. He had a bad experience on LSD during which time he called out to God for help and Jesus spoke to him. He turned his life around, learned to read in order to educate himself and then confessed to the police 24 crime that he had committed since leaving Dover Borstal in 1968. He then went on to higher education, became a baptists minister and taught electrons for over 20 years in colleges of Further and Higher Education. Meanwhile, Michael was unaffected by David's conversion from crime to Christ and continued his flamboyant lifestyle, only to be arrested 25 years later, and was sent to prison for 16 years in the Philippines where he died of Tuberculosis. The story relates that Michael too turned his life around from crime to Christ, after reading C. S. Lewes's book Mere Christianity and they then worked together seeking to help in the reformation of other former criminals.
When I first published my story of conversion from Crime to Christ on the 11th February 2001, under the title, 'Converted on LSD Trip', I thought every one would be delighted to hear the good news. So I asked the Principal of Fareham College, where I was employed as a lecturer, to write a foreword to my book. I was very disappointed, surprised and hurt at his response. He said he would have nothing to do with a book, either privately or publicly, that overtly referred to drug taking. It was like he had judged the book by its cover and title, and so this volume is a reprint of the original story but more. I understood he was a Christian and thought that he would have been delighted and pleased to hear my story and have it told to all the world. You see I had written all about my past criminal life as a youth, my imprisonment for violence and drug taking, that led to my downfall. It was when I was down and at rock bottom experiencing the horrors during a bad trip on LSD that I cried out to God for help asking Jesus please help me. He answered me on the 16th of January 1970 saying He was with me and would never leave me and that what I had been going through was nothing compared to what hell was like. You see the title of my book was, 'Converted on LSD Trip' and on its front cover was a write-up of the court case where I confessed to 24 crimes and a three-year career of undetected crimes, along with my former profligate life. So one thing I learned, some people judge a book by its cover. So this time my book has a different title and a different cover and written to remind my readers, religious and none religious friends, family and acquaintances that we have all sinned and cannot throw stones at others thinking we are better than them for as the Apostle Paul wrote 'such were some of you'. In other words, we are all in need of the salvation that I write about and have experienced. I was saved from a lifetime of crime, immorality, drug taking and hell having now peace with God, and I live to tell the story.

In this his latest works, D R Clarke offers up three short stories including Queen of Saturn for your reading pleasure. Created in the vein of Ray Bradbury, each story follows the adventures of people caught up in Clarke's strange but wonderful universe. Zero Space-Humanity travels to the stars and to a new home that holds a deadly secret. Ambassador Charles de Gaulle works at clearing the way for the people of the Space Ark, Leona_3 to finally come down to Darru, their new home only to uncover their true feelings, as well as his own. Queen of Saturn-A single young physicist with a sketchy past goes for a vacation on a small isolated lake and encounters two strange men dwelling in a mansion on the other side. Somehow, their wild claims of inter-dimensional travel are only validated in his dreams, where he meets the Queen of Saturn. Little Wing-Hurricane hunting is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, and things only get worse with the arrival of a powerful young creature from another world who battles sinister entities while using the wings and fuselage of the Lockheed Osprey as a battle ground. Inside, the crew struggles to stay in the air while war rages outside all around them.
I am honored to write the foreword to this book that alludes to the Greek mythology about the rescue of Helen of Troy by using a wooden horse that hid the warriors. I can understand the literary license that the author employed to catch the attention of the reader because a book, to be of any use, must be read. However, this book is not about deceptive tricks to mislead the enemy. The underpinning premise of this book is that all men have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). This being so, we are captives of sin, imprisoned in our own futility, and therefore, in need of a redeemer. Some are literally imprisoned behind bars and barbed wires, like the inmates in the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa for sins they have committed to society. Many, however, are incarcerated in spiritual dungeons, without bars, without guards. One is no better than the other. Both prisons eventually lead to destruction and death unless God intervenes. God's loving intervention in man's history is the core message of the gospel and of this book. The good news is that we are not shipwrecks, floating aimlessly in the sea of hopelessness. There is a God who loves us tremendously, who desires to salvage us and make us useful once again according to His original plan. This is what salvation is all about. When Jesus read the scroll of the prophet Isaiah in the synagogue that he was sent "to proclaim freedom for the prisoners" (Luke 4:18), he was, in fact, stating one of the profound truths of his ministry. And that is, there is hope of forgiveness and healing because of the cross he had to endure for our sake. The choice whether we should remain prisoners or not ultimately rests on us. I encourage the reader to read the lives of the prisoners depicted in this book in the hope that they will see that only Jesus can truly set us free. Jose C. America has become increasingly divided and polarized in recent years. With growing racial tension, animosity toward law enforcement professionals, government corruption, and disregard for the constitutional process, there seems to be no easy answer in sight. But Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke knows where we must begin: we must stop blaming others; look at our problems with open eyes; take ownership of our family, community, and country; and turn to God for solutions. Deeply rooted in Sheriff Clarke's personal life story, this book is not a dry recitation of what has gone wrong in America with regard to race. It's about the issues that deeply affect us today-both personally and politically-and how we can rise above our current troubles to once again be a truly great people in pursuit of liberty and justice for all.

One of the most profound changes that has come over our society in the last century is married women going out to work. This trend was given a considerable boost by the need to recruit female workers in the factories during WW2. Many other factors have contributed since then. They range from labour saving devices in the home to the unpredictable nature of modem marriage. Things have now progressed to the point where women are taking over the professions including the ordained ministry. This short paperback is written in a vigorous, forthright English style, to the point of being unconventional. However it is clear and read able. Mr Clarke argues that church elder-ship should be male. He states the familiar arguments from Scripture and he also quotes many passages from the Bible which speak of male leadership. The book is one long appeal to Holy Writ as being the final word in matters related. He has no patience with those who argue that we must defer to modern opinion: "When men find themselves looking over their shoulders wondering what will this person or that person think of me if I do not do or say the approved thing then that is where Satan has got you. If you find your self not doing things which you know are right before God and proper because you feel others may disapprove of you, then that is Satan ensnaring you so that you will be ineffectual in your work for God'. We are told to resist the Devil and he will flee from you. (Page 76). Much of the book is occupied with an exchange of letters between the author and the elders of Mr Clarke's church who have decided to appoint women elders. He then enters into correspondence with the head of a Bible College who comes to Mr Clarke's church as a visiting preacher. These vigorous debates enable Mr Clarke to present his arguments in an interesting context. We recommend the book. Dr Napier Malcolm, editor of the British Church News Paper.

The early Hinckley Triumphs produced from 1991 to 2004 – Trophy, Daytona, Trident, Trident Sprint, Tiger, Speed Triple, Adventurer, Thunderbird – were designed and manufactured using a modular concept. This assists in the sharing of components across the range of bikes, which was useful with the restricted availability of spare parts. With over 725 colour photographs, this book provides helpful guidance on keeping your bike on the road, including a discussion of the models produced and their modular design; identifying common problems and how to address them. There is a comprehensive guide to maintenance, including the tools required and details of restoration, modification and upgrades, from changing the exhaust to fabricating swing arms. There is a useful list of suppliers for both new and reconditioned parts, as well as specialist service providers.
David Clarke, winner of the Michael Marks Poetry Award 2013, returns with his second collection, The Europeans. Simultaneously close to home and looking outward beyond these shores, these wry and perceptive poems revel with form and encompass journeys, ideas of nationhood and national identity, and the optimism of a time when Europe and the UK enjoyed a quite different entente cordiale. They are a warning against nostalgia, a lucid and prescient exploration of how we see ourselves and how we are seen." A document for our times. A protest against bigotry and smuggery. A thesis for open borders and equality. In its cumulative effect, The Europeans is a comparative cultural analysis, a social satire and political commentary, a portrait of us and them, here and there, home and away." Paul Stephenson "Clarke’s authoritative new collection offers profound pleasures, and deepening regrets, in a poetic continent where every reader must confront ‘your own untruth’. The Europeans is certainly a book for the present. It is also a book for our uncertain future." - Alison Brackenbury"It includes the best gathering of found Brexit similes I expect to see in my lifetime, and a poem on stately homes that needs to be broadcast before every re-run of Downton Abbey. With targeted humour, an eye for the mobile and the sedentary, repurposing the mundane, David Clarke takes us to estates of all kinds, to both Leeds Central and Milano Centrale."– Alistair Noon
The post-war Federal Republic of Germany faced the task of addressing the plight of the victims of state socialism under the Soviet occupation of eastern Germany and in the German Democratic Republic, many of whom fled to the west. These victims were not passive objects of the West German state’s policy, but organized themselves into associations that fought for recognition of their contribution to the fight against communism. After German unification, the task of commemorating and compensating these victims continued under entirely new political circumstances, yet also in the context of global trends in memory politics and transitional justice that give priority to addressing the fate of victims of non-democratic regimes. Constructions of Victimhood: Remembering the Victims of State Socialism in Germany draws on the constructivist systems theory of Niklas Luhmann to analyze the role of victims organizations, the political system, and historians and heritage professionals in the struggle over the memory of suffering under state socialism, from the Cold War to the present day. The book argues that the identity and social role of victims has undergone a process of constant renegotiation in this period, offering an innovative theoretical framework for understanding how restorative measures are formulated to address the situation of victims. As such, it offers not only insights into a neglected aspect of post-war German history, but also contributes to the ongoing academic debate about the role of victims in process of transitional justice and the politics of memory.
