David Harrison's ancestors, including the Harrison, Domville and Warburton families of Cheshire, England have lived in the same area for hundreds of years. Descended also from King Edward I, the Lords of Liecester, and Lord Stanley their ancestry extends back to the Duke of Normandy (Rollo) and the Sea-Kings of Norway and Finland on both his mother and father's side. Included in this volume are records of many families; Bate, Brereton, Cartwright, Chadwick, Davenport, Dickinson, Domville, Griffiths, Grimshaw, Harrison, Hatch, Harrington, Molymeux, Mort, Pritchard, Rollo, Stanley, Stirrup, Twist, Wakefield, Warburton. Why are financial prices so much more crisis-prone and unstable than real economy prices? Because they are doing different things. Unlike real economy prices, rooted in the real goods and services produced and exchanged, financial prices attempt to value future income flows from financial and capital assets. These valuations fluctuate erratically because expectations of the future fluctuate – and large liquid financial markets can amplify, rather than correct, these effects. The book builds on the insights of economists Frank Knight and John Maynard Keynes, that uncertainty of the future is essential to understand the processes of economic production and capital investment, and adds to this Karl Popper's general explanation of how expectations of an uncertain future are formed and tested through a trial and error process. Rather than relying on fluctuating financial prices to provide a guide to an uncertain future, it suggests a better approach would be to adopt the methods common to other branches of science, and create testable (falsifiable) theories allowing reasonable predictions to be made. In finance, the elements of one such theory could be based on the concept of forecasting yield from capital assets, which is a measurable phenomenon tending towards aggregate and long-term stability, and where there is a plentiful supply of historic data. By methods like this, financial economics could become a branch of science like any other. To buttress this approach, the widely accepted public policy objective of promoting real economy price stability could be widened to include financial price stability.

Finally A book for the corporate newbie that sheds light on the strange and mysterious world of Corporate America... Often the difference between the hot-shot "brand builders" who rise to corporate success and the "brand burners" who crash and burn early in their careers is seldom about intelligence or even hard work. That would be too straightforward. Corporate survival and ultimate success are more often about who understands the Unwritten Rules of Corporate America. Who knows-- How to play the game properly? What stupid mistakes to avoid? When to raise their hand at the right time and in the right way to claim that shining, brand-building opportunity? With 70+ years of combined corporate experience, Harrison and Heart share their stories of success and failure in order for the rest of us--corporate newbies and anyone who could use a primer on corporate culture--to best navigate around the common pitfalls and stumbling blocks of the early corporate years.

This book is a compilation of all my best articles that I have written over the history of Freemasonry for the past twenty years. They have appeared in Masonic magazines such as Freemasonry Today, The Square, The Ashlar, MQ and many more, and I have presented these articles as papers to various lodges all over the world. For the first time they are collected here together in a paperback volume, re-edited, with new additional footnotes and a bibliography, including some never before published material. The book includes historical topics such as the Hell Fire Club, the Freemasons of the French and American revolutions, the Masonic members of the Lunar Society, and the mysterious Williamson's Tunnels that lie beneath the city of Liverpool. The collection also examines Freemasons such as Edward Jenner, Viscount Combermere and takes a look at men who have been associated with Freemasonry such as Thomas Paine and Lord Byron. I hope you enjoy reading this collection as much as I have enjoyed writing it.

Competition law underpins the market economy by prohibiting anti-competitive agreements and practices, and the abuse of dominant positions in the market. Until the financial crisis it was widely assumed that the financial services industry was highly competitive. This book explores the extent to which this is the case. By analysing crisis and pre-crisis competition law cases and examples from the UK, the EU and around the world, David Harrison asks whether there exists good reason for financial services to be treated differently from the rest of the market economy. The theory of market efficiency is not borne out in practice. He particularly draws upon John Maynard Keynes in examining the differences between price mechanisms in product markets for "normal" goods, and price mechanisms in financial and investment markets where expectations of the future tend to play a greater role, leading to greater price fluctuations. In this evaluation, the book examines aspects of the practical functioning of capital markets such as the phenomenon of herding behaviour by financial participants, how short-term behaviour by intermediaries can be to the disadvantage of savers and productive investment, the relationship between investment markets and product markets and the extent to which the same competition rules apply to undertakings involved in both. The book will be invaluable to students, researchers and practitioners of banking and finance law, and commercial and competition law..

David Harrison's childhood was marred with the trauma of abuse. As an adolescent, he turned to substance abuse to dull the pain. Lost in a private Christian school system with no support, he thought he was stupid-that he'd never amount to anything. And he believed it all. Feeling broken and unfixable, he began to see suicide as the only escape from hopelessness. But a friend's death changed Harrison's life. Far from driving him deeper into despair, his friend's passing triggered a spiritual encounter with God that set the young man on a search for deeper truth about himself-and the world in which he lived. Working alongside missionaries that helped victims of the sex trade, Harrison found himself inspired to help heal those who were rescued from this denigrating world and restore their identities. At the same time, he faced the pain so necessary for his own healing to begin. This is Harrison's inspiring story as he peels away the layers of his past to realize his life was based on a negative script written by others-a script he needed to rewrite. All proceeds from Who Am I? Drugs to Dreams go to Destiny Rescue, an organization rescuing children trapped in the sex trade.
