"Murder at Gallipoli" relates the strategy and action of the Battle of Gallipoli with an account of the work of the Field Ambulance. It points out the weaknesses of the campaign and questions if the war should ever have taken place and why lessons had not been learned from previous similar campaigns. It also examines the conduct of the Generals.

Scotland has a very rich heritage in poetry. Many poets have been inspired to write by the grandeur of the scenery, while others have obtained their inspiration from urban scenes, wars, emotions and many other subjects. I have included 52 poems from 27 poets which include a variation in style of writing and subject matter which I am sure will appeal to most readers. The poets include Robert Burns, John Roy Stuart and James Hogg The Ettrick Shepherd]. I hope the reading of these poems will encourage people to get out a pen and keep this wonderful tradition going. Robert Burns is still regarded as Scotland's National Poet but there are so many to choose from that I plan to get together another volume before the end of the year. It will be such a shame if these talented writers are forgotten and their works no longer read.

This book examines the conflict surrounding the latest redevelopment frontier in Chicago: the city’s South Side blues clubs and blocks. Like Chicago, cities such as Cleveland, St. Louis, Boston, Washington D. C., Indianapolis, Milwaukee, and Philadelphia are experiencing a new redevelopment machine: one of tyrannizing and fear. Its actors are adroit at working via the creation of fear to “terror-redevelop” in these historically neglected neighborhoods. The book also discusses the powerful race and class-based politics in Chicago’s blues clubs that resist such change. A “leisure as resistance” framework represents the latest innovative form of opposition to the transformation of these historic sites.

A straightforward discussion of the issues surrounding immigration U. S. immigration has been the subject of furious debates for decades. On one side, politicians and the media talk about aliens and criminals, with calls to "deport them all." On the other side, some advocates idealize immigrants and gloss over problems associated with immigration. Dialogue becomes possible when we dig deeper and ask tough questions: Why are people in other countries leaving their homes and coming here? What does it mean to be "illegal"? How do immigration raids, prisons, and border walls impact communities? Who suffers and who profits from our current system--and what would happen if we transformed it? The Politics of Immigration: Questions and Answers goes beyond soundbites to tackle these concerns in straightforward language and an accessible question-and-answer format. First published in 2007, this updated and expanded edition is an effective tool to confront current stereotypes and disinformation. Those who believe immigrants take jobs from citizens, don't pay taxes, strain public services, and threaten the dominant culture will find their assumptions challenged with compelling arguments and hard data. Ideal for classroom use, The Politics of Immigration provides those who are undecided about immigration with the facts and clear reasoning they need to develop an informed opinion.

For readers of true crime sagas like Tinseltown and Little Demon in the City of Light comes a chilling account of a murder that captivated the United States in the 1920s. Twelve-year-old Marion Parker was kidnapped from her Los Angeles school by an unknown assailant on December 15, 1927. Her body appeared days later, delivered to her father by the killer, who fled with the ransom money. When William Hickman was hunted down and charged with the killing, he admitted to all of it, in terrifying detail, but that was only the start…. Hickman’s insanity plea was the first of its kind in the history of California, and the nature of the crime led to a media frenzy unlike any the country had seen. His lawyers argued that their client lived in a fantasy world, inspired by movies and unable to tell right from wrong. The movie industry scrambled to protect its exploding popularity (and profits) from ruinous publicity. Outside the courtroom, the country craved every awful detail, and the media happily fed that hunger. As scandals threatened the proceedings from the start, the death of a young girl grew into a referendum on the state of America at the birth of mass media culture. David Wilson, a private investigator for over thirty years, captures the maelstrom of Marion Parker's death in vivid detail. From the crime itself to the manhunt that followed, from the unprecedented trial to its aftermath, Wilson draws readers in to the birth of the celebrity criminal.
