The present contents are meant to be a textbook for undergraduate and postgraduate students in electronics and communication engineering, computer science, and information technology. It is also expected to be useful to the students of other disciplines studying basic courses on electronics. It covers the basic principles of digital electronics and 8086 microprocessor. This textbook is an outgrowth of the lectures we have delivered to our students over several years and covers the syllabi of many universities across the India. It will help in bridging the gap between digital electronics and microprocessor. Topics have been illustrated with the help of many diagrams to make the students grasp the subject in a better manner. The subject matter is dealt with a clear and concise way with many examples, and a large number of problems have been worked out to make acquaint students with the applications of the principles and formulae they have encountered in the text.

Number system is used just about everywhere, especially traditional number system (binary, octal, decimal and hexadecimal). However, except the traditional number system, there are also some other number systems those are not as widely known or widely used as traditional number systems in computing but they have charms all their own having a genuine mathematical distinction in its favor. The strange number systems are those number systems which are not classified under traditional number system such as ternary, nonary, unodecimal, vigesimal, trigesimal, hexatrigesimal, sexagesimal, quadrosexagesimal, pentaoctagesimal, octovicentimal etc. The study of strange number system is useful to the researchers of computing due to the fact that these number systems other than the traditional number system offers great benefits and can be helpful in overcoming certain flaws of the present system in the computer field.
