All themes are equal in themselves. Their aesthetic values lie in the intensity of their appeal to the poet or artist. To me the deeds of the Stewarts appeal more intensely than any other theme. Here I have seen the ancient House in crimson blossom on the fields of Falkirk and of Bannockburn, and in Robert II., son of the Lord High Stewart and grandson of Robert Brus, giving the first Stewart king to History.
