It isn’t known when Emily Brontë began work on the imaginative and passionate story titled Wuthering Heights, which was published in 1847. The distinguished novel is set in a remote Yorkshire village in the eighteenth century, and the narrative explores the love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, an abandoned child adopted by Mr. Earnshaw. Their story unfolds alongside a background of poetic imagery, dry humour and rich imagination. Themes of violence and revenge create an intense power in this unique and ground-breaking novel.

Nelly Dean has spent her life serving the inhabitants of Wuthering Heights. She has quite a tale to tell. She wants to tell it to you. Nelly’s story is as wild and stormy as the moors on which it is set. She talks of haunting, hatred, love, grief and the desire for revenge. Her tale begins and ends with the mysterious Heathcliff. Where has this strange, silent boy come from? Will you fear him or pity him? What drives the adult Heathcliff to destroy others, even his own son, and to dig in dark graveyards? Is it love or vengeance, or both? This famous story of Heathcliff and Catherine will thrill you and chill you to the bone.

Wuthering Heights was written by Emily Bront « (1818-1848) and was first published in 1847 under her pen name Ellis Bell.
Wuthering Heights is a wild, passionate story of the intense and almost demonic love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, a foundling adopted by Catherine's father. After Mr Earnshaw's death, Heathcliff is bullied and humiliated by Catherine's brother Hindley and wrongly believing that his love for Catherine is not reciprocated, leaves Wuthering Heights, only to return years later as a wealthy and polished man. He proceeds to exact a terrible revenge for his former miseries. The action of the story is chaotic and unremittingly violent, but the accomplished handling of a complex structure, the evocative descriptions of the lonely moorland setting and the poetic grandeur of vision combine to make this unique novel a masterpiece of English literature.

It is winter in Yorkshire, England. A man rides through the snow to visit a house called Wuthering Heights. While there, the man learns about Catherine, who lived in the house years before. Catherine's story of love and sadness still affects the lives of those in the present.
gothic Wuthering Heights, Emily Bront 's only novel, was published in 1847 under the pseudonym "Ellis Bell". It was written between October 1845 and June 1846. 1] Wuthering Heights and Anne Bront 's Agnes Grey were accepted by publisher Thomas Newby before the success of their sister Charlotte's novel Jane Eyre. After Emily's death, Charlotte edited the manuscript of Wuthering Heights and arranged for the edited version to be published as a posthumous second edition in 1850. 2] Although Wuthering Heights is now a classic of English literature, contemporaneous reviews were deeply polarised; it was controversial because of its unusually stark depiction of mental and physical cruelty, and it challenged strict Victorian ideals regarding religious hypocrisy, morality, social classes and gender inequality. The English poet and painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti, although an admirer of the book, referred to it as "A fiend of a book - an incredible monster ...] The action is laid in hell, - only it seems places and people have English names there." Wuthering Heights contains elements of gothic fiction, and another significant aspect is the moorland setting. The novel has inspired adaptations, including film, radio and television dramatisations, a musical, a ballet, operas, and a song by Kate Bush.
HarperCollins is proud to present its range of best-loved, essential classics.'Is Mr. Heathcliff a man? If so, is he mad? And if not, is he a devil'Heathcliff, an orphan, wild and unkempt, is taken in by Mr Earnshaw and raised as his son at Wuthering Heights on the bleak Yorkshire moors. He is drawn to Earnshaw's daughter Catherine, and as the pair grow up together they become bound by an intense and passionate love. But when Catherine's father dies, Heathcliff is condemned to servitude, and social disparity drives a wedge between them that will eventually become their downfall. Poetic, grand in scope, and with complex ideas of morality, social codes, violence and illness, Wuthering Heights is one of the most unique and emotive Gothic novels, and is consideredEmily Bront 's masterpiece.
