Without a doubt, today Wuthering Heights is one of the most loved and treasured novels ever written in English - an absolute "must read". Although Wuthering Heights is now widely regarded as one of the most important classics of English literature, contemporary reviews for the novel were deeply divided, as it was considered controversial because its depiction of mental and physical cruelty was unusually stark, and it challenged strict Victorian ideals of the day, including religious hypocrisy, morality, social classes and gender inequality. At times dark and sinister, the novel broke with many contemporary ideas as to how romantic literature should be composed. Wuthering Heights is Emily Bront 's only novel, written between October 1845 and June 1846, and published in 1847 under the pseudonym Ellis Bell; she sadly died the following year, aged just 30. Though Emily would not live to experience it, Wuthering Heights rose to become a model of a romantic, gothic novel full of passion, jealousy and tragic love. The main characters Heathcliff and Catherine have been firmly established as the most tragic couple in literature since Romeo and Juliet. This unabridged edition comes in the handy Trade 6x9 inch format.
Heathcliff domina Cumbres Borrascosas, personaje tosco y poderoso.

Wuthering Heights is the only published novel by Emily Bront , written between October 1845 and June 1846 and published in July of the following year. It was not printed until December 1847 under the pseudonym Ellis Bell, after the success of her sister Charlotte Bront 's novel Jane Eyre. The title of the novel comes from the Yorkshire manor on the moors of the story. The narrative centres on the all-encompassing, passionate, but ultimately doomed love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, and how this unresolved passion eventually destroys them and the people around them. Today considered a classic of English literature, Wuthering Heights met with mixed reviews and controversy when it first appeared, mainly because of the narrative's stark depiction of mental and physical cruelty. Emily Bront (1818-1848) was an English novelist and poet, best remembered for her solitary novel, Wuthering Heights. She published under the pen name Ellis Bell.

Wuthering Heights is Emily Bront 's first and only published novel, written between October 1845 and June 1846, 1] and published in 1847 under the pseudonym Ellis Bell; Bront died the following year, aged 30. The decision to publish came after the success of her sister Charlotte's novel, Jane Eyre. After Emily's death, Charlotte edited the manuscript of Wuthering Heights, and arranged for the edited version to be published as a posthumous second edition in 1850. 2] Wuthering Heights is the name of the farmhouse where the story unfolds. The book's core theme is the destructive effect of jealousy and vengefulness both on the jealous or vengeful individuals and on their communities. Although Wuthering Heights is now widely regarded as a classic of English literature, it received mixed reviews when first published, and was considered controversial because its depiction of mental and physical cruelty was unusually stark, and it challenged strict Victorian ideals of the day, including religious hypocrisy, morality, social classes and gender inequality. 3] 4] The English poet and painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti referred to it as "A fiend of a book - an incredible monster ... The action is laid in hell, - only it seems places and people have English names there." 5] In the second half of the 19th century, Charlotte Bront 's Jane Eyre was considered the best of the Bront sisters' works, but following later re-evaluation, critics began to argue Wuthering Heights was superior. 6] The book has inspired adaptations, including film, radio and television dramatisations, a musical by Bernard J. Taylor, a ballet, operas (by Bernard Herrmann, Carlisle Floyd, and Fr d ric Chaslin), a role-playing game, 7] and a 1978 song by Kate Bush.
Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights has been called the most beautiful, most profoundly violent love story of all time. At its center are Catherine and Heathcliff, and the self-contained world of Wuthering Heights, Thrushcross Grange, and the wild Yorkshire moors that the characters inhabit. “I am Heathcliff,” Catherine declares. In her introduction Janet Gezari examines Catherine’s assertion and in her notes maps it to questions that flicker like stars in the novel’s dark dreamscape. How do we determine who and what we are? What do the people closest to us contribute to our sense of identity? The Annotated Wuthering Heights provides those encountering the novel for the first time—as well as those returning to it—with a wide array of contexts in which to read Brontë’s romantic masterpiece. Gezari explores the philosophical, historical, economic, political, and religious contexts of the novel and its connections with Brontë’s other writing, particularly her poems. The annotations unpack Brontë’s allusions to the Bible, Shakespeare, and her other reading; elucidate her references to topics including folklore, educational theory, and slavery; translate the thick Yorkshire dialect of Joseph, the surly, bigoted manservant at the Heights; and help with other difficult or unfamiliar words and phrases. Handsomely illustrated with many color images that vividly recreate both Brontë’s world and the earlier Yorkshire setting of her novel, this newly edited and annotated text will delight and instruct the scholar and general reader alike.
