"An active shooter is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and other populated area. In most cases, active shooters use firearms and there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims. Active shooter situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly. All employees can help prevent and prepare for potential active shooter situations. This course provides guidance to individuals, including managers and employees, so that they can prepare to respond to an active shooter situation. This course is not written for law enforcement officers, but for non-law enforcement employees. The material may provide law enforcement officers information on recommended actions for non-law enforcement employees to take should they be confronted with an active shooter situation."

The IMH provides information on FEMA's incident-level operating concepts, organizational structures, functions, position descriptions, and key assets and teams. Why buy a book you can download for free? We print this book so you don't have to. First you gotta find a good clean (legible) copy and make sure it's the latest version (not always easy). Some documents found on the web are missing some pages or the image quality is so poor, they are difficult to read. We look over each document carefully and replace poor quality images by going back to the original source document. We proof each document to make sure it's all there - including all changes. If you find a good copy, you could print it using a network printer you share with 100 other people (typically its either out of paper or toner). If it's just a 10-page document, no problem, but if it's 250-pages, you will need to punch 3 holes in all those pages and put it in a 3-ring binder. Takes at least an hour. It's much more cost-effective to just order the latest version from Amazon.com This book includes original commentary which is copyright material. Note that government documents are in the public domain. We print these large documents as a service so you don't have to. The books are compact, tightly-bound, full-size (8 1/2 by 11 inches), with large text and glossy covers. 4th Watch Publishing Co. is a SDVOSB. usgovpub.com

PLAN to LIVE Are You Ready? The In-Depth Guide for Citizen Preparednes: for Every Home and Business Largest format available anywhere - giant 8.5" x 11" - LARGE, CLEAR PRINT - easily photocopied, distributed, and read in poor light. The indispensable guide for every American family and organization. Created and trusted by the U. S. Federal Emergency Management Agency. "Batteries last hours, books last decades. Get the print edition " As catastrophic weather events, terrorism, international tensions, and other disasters such as earthquakes and wildfires continue to threaten our way of life, it is vital that all American families, places of business and other organizations not only possess the supplies necessary to sustain them through periods of emergency, but the training and planning required to survive. This guide has been designed to help the citizens of this nation learn how to protect themselves and their families against all types of hazards. It can be used as a reference source or as a step-by-step manual. The focus of the content is on how to develop, practice, and maintain emergency plans that reflect what must be done before, during, and after a disaster to protect people and their property. Also included is information on how to assemble a disaster supplies kit that contains the food, water, and other supplies in sufficient quantity for individuals and their families to survive following a disaster in the event they must rely on their own resources. WHY PREPARE BASIC PREPAREDNESS NATURAL HAZARDS TECHNOLOGICAL HAZARDS TERRORISM RECOVERING FROM DISASTER WATER CONSERVATION DISASTER SUPPLIES FAMILY COMMUNICATIONS PLANNING WHY PREPARE? There are real benefits to being prepared. Being prepared can reduce fear, anxiety, and losses that accompany disasters. Communities, families, and individuals should know what to do in the event of fires or tornados. They should be ready to evacuate their homes and know how to care for their basic medical needs. People also can reduce the impact of disasters and sometimes avoid the danger completely. The need to prepare is real. Disasters disrupt hundreds of thousands of lives every year. Each disaster has lasting effects, both to people and property. If a disaster occurs in your community, local government and disaster-relief organizations will try to help you, but you need to be ready as well. You should know how to respond to severe weather or any disaster that could occur in your area - hurricanes, earthquakes, extreme cold, flooding, or terrorism. You should also be ready to be self-sufficient for at least three days. This may mean providing for your own shelter, first aid, food, water, and sanitation. Using this book makes preparation practical. This book was developed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which is the agency responsible for responding to national disasters and for helping state and local governments and individuals prepare for emergencies. It contains step-by-step advice on how to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. Used in conjunction with information and instructions from local emergency management offices and the American Red Cross, this book will give you what you need to be prepared. The datasets developed during a project are provided to the community, and the information allows the community to determine whether the higher risk areas require more stringent building codes. Both regulatory and non-regulatory products are presented to the community in a series of Risk MAP meetings. The meetings also include information about Building Science Branch resources, such as the Building Science Toolkit CD, NFIP technical bulletins, disaster recovery advisories, building code assistance, web links, desk references, training resources, and technical publications, all of which can help the community meet FEMA's goal of fostering resilience through hazard-resistant structure design that leads to reducing the loss of life and property in hazard events.
