The Pledge of Allegiance was written many years ago by Captain George Thatcher Batch but was adapted to the version we know now by Francis Bellamy in 1892. While they may be able to repeat the words by heart, children may not always understand the words. This book provides alternative words and phrases to help the reader share meaning, build vocabulary, entice critical thinking, and inspire loyalty to our country Beautiful photos illustrate and engage children in each word or phrase as well. "Literacy Links" provide suggestions for building literacy around this song, while "Learning Extensions" offer several learning activities for children around our pledge.
