The Age of Enlightenment profoundly enriched religious and philosophical understanding and continues to influence present-day thinking. Works collected here include masterpieces by David Hume, Immanuel Kant, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, as well as religious sermons and moral debates on the issues of the day, such as the slave trade. The Age of Reason saw conflict between Protestantism and Catholicism transformed into one between faith and logic -- a debate that continues in the twenty-first century.++++The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. ""Francis Drake and the California Indians, 1579"" is a historical book written by Robert F. Heizer. The book delves into the interaction between the English explorer Francis Drake and the indigenous people of California during his voyage in 1579. Heizer provides a detailed account of the encounters between Drake and the native people, including the Miwok and Ohlone tribes. The book also explores the impact of Drake's arrival on the California Indians and their culture. Heizer draws on primary sources, such as journals and diaries, to provide a comprehensive and accurate portrayal of the events. This book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of California, Native American studies, or the life of Francis Drake. The publications of the Hakluyt Society (founded in 1846) made available edited (and sometimes translated) early accounts of exploration. The first series, which ran from 1847 to 1899, consists of 100 books containing published or previously unpublished works by authors from Christopher Columbus to Sir Francis Drake, and covering voyages to the New World, to China and Japan, to Russia and to Africa and India. This account of Drake's circumnavigation of the world in 1577–1580 was first published by his nephew in 1628 and appears to derive from notes made by Francis Fletcher, the chaplain to the expedition, although a surviving manuscript account by Fletcher is not identical. The introduction to this edition (published in 1854) discusses textual problems, and also puts the narrative into the context of Drake's career as one of the privateers who carried on England's unacknowledged war with Spain in the decades before the Armada.
