På 1970- och 80-talet kom tusentals politiska flyktingar från Chile, Uruguay och Argentina till Sverige. De var ofta vänsteraktivister och förföljdes av militärdiktaturerna i sina hemländer. Han skriver regelbundet om svensk politik för tysk- och engelskspråkiga medier.
