Gustaf Henrik Mellin

Historiallinen romaani on ollut Suomessakin suosittu lajityyppi 1800-luvun puolivälistä saakka, aina Topeliuksesta ja Juhani Ahosta alkaen, mutta varhaisempiakin esimerkkejä löytyy. Tähän kirjaa on koottu kolme vanhaa historiallista romaania, joista kaksi on suomalaisten kirjailijoiden kirjoittamia ja yksi on suomalaissyntyisen kirjailijan Suomeen sijoittuva teos. Gustaf Mellinin Paavo Nissinen sijoittuu Suomen sotaan 1808-1809, Yrjö-Sakari Yrjö-Koskisen Pohjan-Piltti pakanuuden viimeisiin aikoihin 1200-luvulle ja Auran eli Betty Elfvingin Härkmanin pojat isonvihan aikaan. Kirja on hyvä kooste varhaisinta historiallista romaaniamme, ja mukana on myös Juri Nummelinin lyhyt johdanto aiheeseen.
