Adapted from When We Dead Awaken, the last play Henrik Ibsen wrote before his death. First staged in 1899, Ibsen's play is rarely performed, yet is one of his most extraordinary and deeply personal works. Whilst holidaying with his young wife, the sculptor Rubek encounters his muse: a woman that he loved and left a lifetime ago. Over a series of heated encounters, the entire scroll of Rubek's life is unrolled in Ibsen's final – and most autobiographical – exploration of what it means to love and be loved. Set within a mythical Nordic landscape, the play offers an explicit and merciless portrait of Ibsen as an ageing artist: restless with his art, his homeland and his married life. Mike Poulton's play Judgement Day was first staged at The Print Room, London, in 2011.

A thrilling version of Ibsen's epic play, charting the true odyssey of an astonishing man as he struggles to find spiritual fulfilment and political pre-eminence. Made Emperor in Rome, Julian attempts to abolish Christianity and restore the old gods. But met with fierce resistance, this great free-thinker becomes a tyrant more hated than his brutal predecessor, Constantius. And in arousing the Christians from their apathy he advances their cause, his life and death altering the course of history in stark opposition to his intent. Ibsen's little-known masterpiece sweeps across Greece and the Middle East from AD351, covering twelve crucial years in the history of civilisation. Completed and published in 1873, Emperor and Galilean was premiered in Leipzig in 1896. This newly created version by Ben Power was first staged at the National Theatre, London, in June 2011, marking the first time that Emperor and Galilean had been performed on the stage in English. The production was directed by Jonathan Kent, with Andrew Scott as the Emperor Julian, and Ian McDiarmid as Maximus.

Ibsen's political comedy in a crisp and satirical version by Andy Barrett. Bratsberg is a man of tradition. He thinks manners, knowledge and education are the foundations of a good society, but are his values dated? Monsen is an entrepreneur who believes success comes from hard work, but can he be trusted? Stensgard is a radical. He can see that change is beckoning and that he should be the man to drive progress forward. But when real power becomes a possibility how will he respond? A play about political ambition and opportunism, the conflicts of class, the difficulties of breaking open long established systems, and the ways in which political expediency can lay waste to idealism. Written as a response to political change in Norway, The League of Youth was Henrik Ibsen's first truly successful play, and is a clear precursor to The Pillars of Society, A Doll's House and An Enemy of the People. Its vivid characters are instantly recognisable as the prototypes for many of his greatest creations. This English version by Andy Barrett was first staged at Nottingham Playhouse in 2011.

David Eldridge's new version of Ibsen's classic play, published to coincide with its premiere at the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, October 2010. When the lighthouse keeper's daughter Ellida meets the widower Dr Wangel, she tries to put her long-lost first love far behind her and begin a new life as a wife and stepmother. But the tide is turning, an English ship is coming down the fjord, and the undercurrents threaten to drag a whole family beneath the surface in this passionate and sweeping drama. Ellida must choose between the values of the land: solidity and reliability against those of the sea: mystery and fluidity. Ibsen's lyrical and still startlingly modern masterpiece, anticipated the emergence of psychoanalysis and talking cures. Similar to Hedda Gabler and A Doll's House, The Lady from the Sea vibrantly explores the constrained social position of women, exploring themes of choice, marriage, responsibility and freedom. David Eldridge's translation is subtle, faithful and sensitive to Ibsen's language, and makes this classic play accessible to the English reader without compromising any of the original's intensely poetic and atmospheric tone.

An enthralling version of an unforgettable Ibsen classic. Part psychological thriller, part Gothic tragedy, Henrik Ibsen's late masterwork is a compelling portrait of one man's obsessive determination, and what might lie on the darker side of ambition. Halvard Solness, the leading architect of his age, is at the end of his career. A single-minded man of angry pride, trapped in a frozen marriage to Aline, he is terrified of being eclipsed by the younger generation snapping at his heels. A decade after their first meeting, the charismatic and bewitching young Hilde Wangel comes back into his life and inspires him to even greater heights. But will his last towering achievement renew him or destroy him? This version of Ibsen's play The Master Builder, by David Edgar, was first staged at the Minerva Theatre, Chichester, in 2010.
