NEW PRINT WITH PROFESSIONAL TYPE-SET IN CONTRAST TO SCANNED PRINTS OFFERED BY OTHERS The Commission In Lunacy: Translated By Clara Bell This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING

Honor de Balzac was a French novelist and playwright, born in 1799 in Tours, France. His father was Secretary to the King's Council and a Freemason, and his mother came from a wealthy family of haberdashers. Balzac had difficulty with the strict nature of his early schooling, and was often sent to punishment in a small isolated cell. This caused early health problems that plagued him throughout his life-exacerbated by his rigorous writing schedule. Balzac is viewed as one of the founders of realism in European literature, creating complex characters who are flawed, morally ambiguous, and absolutely human. Many of his works have been translated into other languages, and made into movies, and he influenced many other well known writers, including Gustave Flaubert, Victor Hugo, and Charles Dickens. This bilingual edition is designed to assist those learning French. The original French text appears on the right-hand pages of the book, with the corresponding English translation on the right-hand pages.

''The Magic Skin'' appears to have a straightforward plot created by Honor de Balzac, who goes by the pen name Balzac. It tells the story of Raphael and how the miracle of his being saved by a mystical talisman in his most pitiful state actually turns out to be a terrifying curse of never-ending terror and contempt. The premise is straightforward, but Balzac uses an abundance of character description along with a quick narrative arc to completely subdue the reader and take him through the entirety of a man's life experience, including childhood, the loss of innocence, impossible love, despair, and the pains of old age. The author manages to be concise without sacrificing the in-depth and potent use of quality description in both the characters and the environment, which is how this technique manages to be completely successful. The novel is a bit of a marvel on many levels, and it's hard to pin down the metaphor at any given point. On the one hand, "the skin's influence" seems to be a reactionary phenomenon that borders on the psychosomatic. Each supporting character in ''The magic skin'' takes on the attributes of their different professions metaphorically.
The novel La Cousine Bette, sometimes known as Cousin Bette, was written by French novelist Honor de Balzac in 1846. It tells the tale of an unmarried middle-aged woman who plans to destroy her extended family and is set in the middle of the 19th century in Paris. Adeline Hulot is coerced into having an affair at the beginning of the book by a wealthy perfumer who wants her to date with Jos pha Mirah, one of his favorite singers. The Baron has showered Mirah with money to the extent that he has borrowed considerably from his Uncle Johann. Unable to pay back the loan, the Baron arranges for Johann to work for the War Department in Algeria, with the understanding that Johann will be in a position to steal the borrowed funds. Jos pha rejects Baron Hulot, telling him straight out that she has chosen another man due to his wealth. Uncle Johann is detained in Algeria and kills himself; the Baron is abruptly forced to resign; his brother, a well-known war hero, rescues him from prison; and he soon passes away in humiliation over the family scandal. The family is crushed by these constant setbacks, and Bette keeps her schemes hidden from them entirely.
French author Honor de Balzac wrote a novella titled Le Colonel Chabert in 1832. It is a part of his La Com die Humaine novella series (The Human Comedy). In the story, French society during the Restoration and July Monarchy is shown and parodied. A prostitute named Rose Chapotel is married to Colonel Chabert. Napoleon Bonaparte then holds Colonel Chabert in high regard as a French cavalry officer. Chabert was gravely wounded during the Battle of Eylau (1807), and his death and burial are listed with the other French casualties. He does, however, manage to escape his tomb and is then given medical attention by the villagers in the area. He requires several years to fully recover. When he gets back to Paris, he learns that his widow has wed the ascetic Count Ferraud and sold all of Chabert's belongings. He engages Derville, a lawyer, to help him get his money back and his honor after they were wrongfully handed away as an inheritance. Derville, who also represents Countess Ferraud, cautions Chabert against accepting the Countess's offer of a settlement bribe. Chabert ultimately leaves empty-handed and spends the rest of his days in a mental institution.
