ENGLISH DESCRIPTION Six of the best stories by one of the masters of American short fiction. Although he always lived in the grip of a lack of money, Jack London (San Francisco, 1876 - Glen Ellen, California, 1916) became the highest-paid writer in his country. However, before becoming an acclaimed author, he held many jobs, including oyster poachers in San Francisco Bay, coastal patrolman, seal hunter, and gold prospector in the Klondike River region. All these experiences left an indelible mark on him and are distilled with dazzling mastery in his narratives. Set in the sunny islands of the Pacific, such as "The Chinago" or "Koolau the Leper", or in the glacial territories of the Yukon, such as "Law of Life" or "Lighting a Bonfire", the stories collected in this anthology constitute a representative sample of some of the core themes of the author's work, such as the fierce struggle for existence, the insignificance of the individual in the face of the cruelty and ruthlessness of nature or the power of the white man.

Martin Eden is a novel by American author Jack London, about a proletarian young autodidact struggling to become a writer. It was first serialized in the Pacific Monthly magazine from September 1908 to September 1909, and subsequently published in book form by Macmillan in September 1909. This book is a favorite among writers, who relate to Martin Eden's speculation that when he mailed off a manuscript, 'there was no human editor at the other end, but a mere cunning arrangement of cogs that changed the manuscript from one envelope to another and stuck on the stamps, ' returning it automatically with a rejection slip. citation needed] The central theme of Martin Eden's developing artistic sensibilities puts the novel in tradition of the K nstlerroman genre, in whici is narrated the formation and development of an artist.( wikipedia.org)

White Fang is one of the great books written by Jack London. He uses his unique style of writing to describe the animals and their surrounding in a very interesting manner. The story takes place in Yukon Territory and the Northwest Territories, Canada, during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush and details White Fang's journey to domestication. It is a companion novel (and a thematic mirror) to London's best-known work, The Call of the Wild, which is about a kidnapped, domesticated dog embracing his wild ancestry to survive and thrive in the wild. White Fang is part dog and part wolf. He soon learns to follow the harsh law of the North--kill or be killed. White Fang experiences the violent world of wild animals and the equally violent world of humans. As well as the kind nature of humans and how hard it can be for a wild animal to adapt to humans and their way of life. If you like animals, especially dogs you have to read this book.

As close to an autobiography as Jack London ever wrote, John Barleycorn recounts the author's lifelong struggle with alcohol. In this brutally frank memoir, which takes its title from the British folksong that personifies the source of whiskey and beer, London writes of alcohol as his friend and his enemy, an "august companion" and a "red-handed killer." In an age when alcoholism was viewed as a genetic weakness, London's frank, ahead-of-its-time treatment of his struggles tarnished his sterling reputation as a paragon of all-American manhood. The book created a sensation upon its 1913 publication and became a powerful tool of the temperance movement. More than a screed against demon rum, however, the tale recounts London's years as a sailor, explorer, and frontiersman up and down the West Coast, from Southern California to Alaska. Rich in anecdotes and written in a captivating style, the book also offers compelling insights into London's life as a rugged adventurer and popular writer.

When this novel was first published in 1906, Jack London was well on his way to becoming one of the most popular writers in the world. A spellbinding tale of life in the northern wilds, White Fang ranks among the author's finest achievements. London reveals the savage realities of the battle for survival among all species in a harsh, unyielding environment. Part wolf, part dog, White Fang is a ferocious and magnificent creature whose experiences reflect the essential rhythms and patterns of life in both humanity and the animal kingdom. Above all, this story offers keen observations on the extraordinary workings of one of nature's greatest gifts: the power to adapt. With his focus on this wondrous process, London created an adventure classic that's as fresh and appealing today as it was a century ago.

Martin Eden is a 1909 novel by American author Jack London about a young proletarian autodidact struggling to become a writer. It was first serialized in The Pacific Monthly magazine from September 1908 to September 1909 and published in book form by Macmillan in September 1909. Eden represents writers' frustration with publishers by speculating that when he mails off a manuscript, a "cunning arrangement of cogs" immediately puts it in a new envelope and returns it automatically with a rejection slip. The central theme of Eden's developing artistic sensibilities places the novel in the tradition of the K nstlerroman, in which is narrated the formation and development of an artist. Eden differs from London in that Eden rejects socialism, attacking it as "slave morality", and relies on a Nietzschean individualism. In a note to Upton Sinclair, London wrote, "One of my motifs, in this book, was an attack on individualism (in the person of the hero). I must have bungled, for not a single reviewer has discovered it."
