Jack London's beloved 1903 masterpiece, The Call of the Wild, is unsurpassed as the gripping adventure of Buck, a California wolf-dog enjoying the good life who is brutally kidnapped and sold into the Canadian Yukon as a sled-dog during the gold rush of the 1890s. Buck quickly has to shed his civilized ways to survive the harsh new laws of fang and club, but after terrifying challenges he triumphs by discovering his true nature, which leads him to authentic love and finally an authentic life. Far more than a deeply moving animal fable, London's harrowing and sublime tale probes fundamental questions of human existence and our relationship to the natural world. Includes London's haunting short story "To Build a Fire," his 1903 article "How I Became a Socialist," his 1910 essay The Other Animals, an afterword by Ulrich Baer, and a biographical timeline.
1890’erne. Guldfeberen raser i Klondike.
When Buck is smuggled from his beloved home in the Santa Clara Valley and forced to work as a sled-dog in the frozen wilderness of the Yukon, he must forget the long, lazy Californian days and face a life of constant toil and danger under the whip of cruel or inept masters, where survival itself must be fought for. But with his primal instincts stirred, how long can Buck resist the call of the wild? Set at the time of the Klondike Gold Rush, The Call of the Wild is one of the greatest evocations of the natural world, and perhaps the best example of London’s famously urgent and vivid style. This edition also includes ‘Brown Wolf’, ‘That Spot’ and ‘To Build a Fire’ – three Yukon tales that demonstrate London’s mastery of the short-story genre.

First published in 1907, "The Iron Heel" is Jack London's dystopian novel about the rise of an oligarchic tyranny in the United States. Displaying the socialist views that were held by London himself and that were prevalent at the beginning of the 20th century, "The Iron Heel" tells the story of events far in the future when a small, wealthy class squeezes out the middle class and effectively rules with brutality for three centuries until a revolution ushers in a new era called the "Brotherhood of Man". The novel is set primarily around the San Francisco Bay Area and is told in the form of a rediscovered long-lost manuscript written by a woman named Avis Everhard, who gives up her privileged life to join the resistance and overthrow the repressive regime. As important a commentary today as when it was first written, London's novel was far ahead of its time and is largely credited with inspiring George Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty-Four". "The Iron Heel" is a chilling depiction of a possible future world and an excellent exposition on the class struggle which has dominated most of human history. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper.
The writings of philosophers, poets, novelists, social reformers, and others who have voiced the struggle against social injustice. Selected from twenty-five languages, covering a period of five thousand years This bold anthology of social protest art art and literature spans five thousand years and twenty-five languages and is the preeminent collection of progressive thought, literature, and art. This massive, stirring, and insightful collection includes literature of social protest, progressive and socialist philosophy, excerpts from novels, poems, speeches, muck raking journalism, and art all in the service of voicing the struggle against social injustice. In 1915, shortly after the runaway success of his famous muckraking novel about the Chicago slaughterhouse industry, The Jungle, Upton Sinclair took time out of his busy writing and political organizing life to collect and then edit into a single volume work by the artists, novelists, philosophers, poets, and journalist who had inspired his career. Eye witnesses to war and revolution, Christian heretics, saints, humanist philosophers, labor organizers, martyrs, feminists, socialists, satirists, and characters from Dickens and Shakespeare can all be found in The Cry for Justice. This nearly 1000 page book includes work by Upton Sinclair, Jack London, Euripides, Dante, Emile Zola, Leo Tolstoy, John Galsworthy, William Blake, John Keats, Edward Bellamy, Charles Dickens, G. K. Chesterton, Winston Churchill, H. G. Wells, Walt Whitman, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Rabindranath Tagore, Mark Twain, Abraham Lincoln, and many, many others in the form of essays, stories, poems, tracts, jokes, protests, and first-person accounts. Together they highlight a long undying progressive socialist tradition that most recently surfaced in Bernie Sanders's 2016 presidential campaign. The Cry for Justice is not a history book, it's a book for inspiring a better future, as relevant today as when it was first published. H. G. Wells, a contributor, referred to The Cry for Justice as Sinclair's "Book of Life." Jack London's enthusiastic introduction, which he calls a "humanist Holy Book," ends with "To see gathered here together this great body of human beauty and fineness and nobleness is to realize what glorious humans have already existed, do exist, and will continue increasingly to exist until all the world beautiful be made over in their image. We know how gods are made. Comes now the time to make a world."

The story of Jack London's adventure to the South PacificThe Cruise of the Snark tells the story of a sailing voyage by the author Jack London (The Call of the Wild, White Fang, The Sea-Wolf etc) and his wife Charmain across the South Pacific. The Snark was a cutter-rigged ketch named after the subject of Lewis Carroll's famous poem. She set sail with a small crew from San Francisco Bay in the Spring of 1907 bound for Hawaii, The Marquesas Islands, Tahiti, Bora Bora, Fiji, Samoa, and the Soloman Islands. Unfortunately, the Londons were forced to end their voyage at Guadalcanal because Jack London fell ill. The late arrival of the Snark at its expected destination, caused by London's incapacity, gave rise to speculation that the vessel had been lost. The Londons sailed home by steamer, whilst the Snark was taken to Australia by a skeleton crew where she was sold. This description of a sailing adventure in the early 20th century is made very evocative by London's exceptional prose and the text is enhanced by photographs. Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket.
