An Accordion Book doesn't open, it unfolds. One side is filled with beautiful watercolour images of an animal: sometimes in motion, sometimes at rest. The other is filled with text - poems, descriptions, invocations - inspired by the same animal. Together they work as spells to summon the animal's spirit. Jackie Morris has painted them using antique watercolours, some from boxes which hadn't been opened for over 150 years, woken from their slumber with a single drop of water. Hare and Hound will join the first two Accordions, Fox and Otter, in a series that will go on to include Owl and Cat among many others.

Wild Folk comprises seven richly illustrated fables of transformation and power, summoned from the ancient stones beneath our feet and transformed by word and image into portals between past and future. These tales from the stones are neither new nor old. They are full of ‘wild folk’, shape-shifting spirits that carry the energy that connects all things. You will meet selkies and silver trout and the black fox, as big as a wolf and so fast and cunning she drives the lord of the manor to madness and oblivion; the woman of flowers who is happier living as an owl; the boy who learns to feel the songs and stories of trees through his skin; Wayland, the smith who can hammer metal to such airy thinness he makes his own wings; and the great white raven, a bird so rare it awakens the king who sleeps beneath the stones of the wild west cliffs of Wales. This book brings together the words of Jackie Morris and the stained-glass paintings of Tamsin Abbott, but the stories come from both, a true collaboration born out of friendship and hope. These are tales to make you see, listen and most of all feel the wild magic that links stone, tree, fox and star.
Wild Folk comprises seven richly illustrated fables of transformation and power, summoned from the ancient stones beneath our feet and transformed by word and image into portals between past and future. The tales are neither new nor old. They are full of 'wild folk', shape-shifting spirits that carry the energy that connects all things. In its pages you will meet selkies and salmon and Black Fox, as big as a wolf and so fast and cunning she drives the Lord of the Manor to madness and oblivion; the woman of flowers who is happier living as an owl; the boy who learns to feel the songs and stories of trees through his skin; Wayland, the smith who can hammer metal to such airy thinness he makes his own wings; and the great white raven, a bird so rare it awakens the king who sleeps beneath the stones of the wild west cliffs of Wales. This a book made to be looked at and held (it might be the first time stained glass images have been created specifically to illustrate a book). Tamsin paints on glass, the most mysterious stone of all, used for centuries to tell stories to people who couldn't read or write. A story painted on glass is something you can look at and look through, sometimes both at once. It brings together Jackie's words and Tamsin's images, but the stories come from both. It is a true collaboration born out of friendship and hope. These are tales to make you see, listen and most of all feel the wild magic that links stone, tree, fox and star.
“Born at the very start of the summer, so small she could rest easily in the cupped hands of a child …” From a little furry bundle, Rosie the puppy grows, learns, and explores her world - rose petals, spiders and butterflies in the garden, the jungle of long summer grass, the fields where a fox calls, the beach where she chases waves and digs deep in the sand. Warmly and lovingly, Rosie's first summer is recreated in Jackie Morris's poetic words and Cathy Fisher's unforgettable images. Rich in the sense of discovery, rich too in the love between puppy and child, here is a timeless country idyll for all ages.
“I am Cat. At night I prowl, but in the day I sleep, curled in warm places. And when I sleep, I dream …” Cat’s dreams lead into the lives of other cats in far-off and wild places, a tiger in the jungle, a cheetah on the African plains, a jaguar swimming in the forest river, a wild cat in the Scottish Highlands, a snow leopard in the Himalayas … Ten species are depicted, each in its own environment, in breathtaking full-spread illustrations.
The amazing story of a peregrine falcon rescued from the sea off the remote coast of west Wales. Jackie Morris tells the story of how her friend Ffion Rees nursed the Falcon back to life and back to the wild—it’s about the bond which grew between the two. The story is told by international author and illustrator Jackie Morris, who lives in this remote part of Pembrokeshire, in west Wales. Jackie describes the risks, triumphs, and above all the trust which developed between the pair and which formed the basis of the falcon’s path to back to health and back to the freedom of the wild. Beautifully illustrated throughout with photographs, drawings, sketches and magnificent paintings by Jackie. A must for birdwatchers, art lovers, and romantics alike.
In a faraway forest a baby is lost and found, protected by a she-panda. Nine years later another baby, the panda's child, is in great danger, and only a boy and the spirit of the forest can save him. This magical, powerful story by Jackie Morris, co-creator of The Lost Words, and award-winning illustrator Cathy Fisher, is a book for all ages to treasure, exploring our most vital connection with wild nature.
