Jacob Boehme

The German mystic Jacob Boehme disccourses at length a fundamental law of Magic: the law of signatures, which is the concept that every object in the three dimensional world has a hidden meaning, and moreover, how those signatures interact with each other. Mystical Christianity is at the root of Boehme's philosophy, but his beliefs differed from the prevalent Lutheran establishment of his time, causing him persecution the entirety of his life. Boehme's universe is one where a creative and destructive principle are continually in conflict, a perspective later cited by Nietzsche, Newton and Phillip K Dick as influential to their works. This is a modernized and revised edition for readers of the present generation. Archaic word forms and stilted language have been updated to flow with the language and syntax of our time. This volume also includes two additional writings by Jacob Boehme: Of the Supersensual Life: Two Dialogues between a Scholar or Disciple and his Master, and The Way From Darkness to True Illumination: A Discourse between a Soul Hungry and Thirsty and a Soul Enlightened.

Acknowledged as one of the greatest of the western mystics, Jacob Boehme was born in 1575 at Old Seidenberg, a small village in Silesia. A shoemaker by trade, Boehme's whole life was spent in contemplation and prayer, seeking spiritual enlightenment. He was rewarded with piercing visions of God and the nature of reality, revelations which he set down in a series of books. The Clavis is perhaps the most accessible of all these tomes, a detailed, yet succinct, account of the nature of God and Creation, and of humanity's role within the unfolding evolution of the Universe. In 1895 the Reverend Dr. Alexander Whyte bemoaned the lack of a Boehme biography, suggesting that a compilation of the many biographic details scattered throughout his works would give the student a better insight into his thoughts and ideas. W. Scott Palmer took up the challenge and the result, The Confessions of Jacob Boehme, serves to shine a light on the doubts and temptations that lay on the path to Boehme's eventual enlightenment.

The Threefold Life is Jacob Boehme's third book. "It is a key for above and below to all mysteries, to whatever the mind is able to think upon, or wherever the heart is able to turn and move itself. It shows the whole ground of the Three Principles. It serves every one according to his present condition. He may therein sound the depth and the resolution of any question that reason is able to devise and propound."

The 35 epistles of Jacob Boehme, translated by John Ellistone in 1649, have run through countless editions over the centuries. But this is the first edition that adds the 20 lost epistles, translated in 1661 by John Sparrow, published once in The Remainder of Books by Jacob Behmen, 1662, then forgotten for 350 years. The Epistles are an excellent starting point for those new to JB, and the initiated will find valuable exegesis of his books and a wealth of autobiographical detail.

The Three Principles of the Divine Essence was Boehme's second book and the one he recommended as an introduction to all his writings. The three principles - the fire world, the light world and the outer world - proceed from the Father, Son and Spirit, and are manifest in all things. "Thus now I have written, not from the instruction or knowledge received from men, nor from the learning or reading of books; but I have written out of my own book which was opened in me, being the noble similitude of God, the book of the noble and precious image (understand God's own similitude or likeness) was bestowed upon me to read; and therein I have studied, as a child in the house of its mother, which beholdeth what the father doth, and in his child-like play doth imitate his father; I have no need of any other book." "My book hath only three leaves, the same are the three principles of eternity, wherein I can find all whatsoever Moses and the prophets, Christ and his apostles have taught and spoken; I can find therein the foundation of the world and all mysteries; yet not I, but the spirit of God, doth it according to the measure, as He pleaseth."

The Epistles and Six Theosophic Points is a book written by Jacob Boehme, a German Christian mystic and theologian. The book is a collection of letters, or epistles, written by Boehme to various individuals, offering guidance and insight into spiritual matters. In addition to the epistles, the book also includes six theosophic points, which are philosophical concepts related to the nature of God, the universe, and humanity. These points cover topics such as the divine spark within each individual, the nature of evil, and the role of faith in spiritual growth. Boehme's writing style is often described as dense and difficult to understand, but those who are able to grasp his ideas find them deeply insightful and transformative.
