2008 is the 20th anniversary of the great free trade debate that culminated in the majority victory of Prime Minster Brian Mulroney and his Progressive Conservatives, who championed FTA, as well as the 20th anniversary of the election of George H. W. Bush. Bush's initial period as the 41st president saw significant events in Canada and the United States that led to the realization of NAFTA. Age of the Offered Hand features speeches by both leaders, correspondence between them, and transcripts of joint press conferences between 1989 and 1993, when the two men held office. "Selected Poems of James McGrath" has been created in the poets' community of writers, poets, educators and artists who have expressed their personal discoveries in James' poetry. Poet, James McGrath, offers "Selected Poems of James McGrath" as his ninth book with Sunstone Press of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

At ninety-two years of age, James McGrath offers poetry in this book as a response to the 2019, 2020, 2021 coronavirus threats and opportunities to change and celebrate our lives. It is as if the months of the virus uncovered, even provoked, fragility and strength to speak in a variety of voices to echo confusion and bewilderment in the comings-and-goings of everyday life. Autism is a ‘social disorder’, defined by interactions and lifestyle. Yet, the expectations of normalcy against which Autism is defined have too rarely been questioned. This book demonstrates the value of the Humanities towards developing fuller understandings of Autistic adulthood, adapting theory from Adorno, Foucault and Butler. The chapters expose serious scientific limitations of medical assumptions that Autistic people are gifted at maths but indifferent to fiction. After interrogating such clichés in literature, cinema and television, James McGrath also explores more radical depictions of Autism via novels by Douglas Coupland, Margaret Atwood, Clare Morrall and Meg Wolitzer, plus poems by Les Murray and Joanne Limburg.
