Disposophobia: A black comedy about identity theft, liars, lovers and old phone bills
DISPOSOPHOBIA IS A SATIRICAL PLAY - A BLACK COMEDY ABOUT identity theft, liars, lovers & old phone bills. When Sophie and Karl, two struggling young artists scratching a living as cleaners, arrive to reorganise the chaotic apartment belonging to Tony, a wealthy hoarder, the scene is set for a clash of personalities and ideals. But as the conflict unravels between all three of them, just exactly who is hoarding what becomes less clear. Disposophobia confronts our assumptions about attachment to people, possessions and insodoing questions our deep-held convictions about the nature of personal identity. The emotional key of Disposophobia is perhaps summed up in a monologue of one of the central characters, Tony (the hoarder), on being confronted with the need to get on top of his 'dysfunction' (both metaphorically and actually ) "Old letters are vital, don't you think? They remind you of who you used to be, who you used to love And not just letters - bills, receipts remind you of what you used to pay for, what you used to like. - No, I can't let go of them, it wouldn't be right. They're as much a part of me as - well, the person standing in front of you now... I mean, who's to say I'm more real now than I used to be? We're not just the present, are we - Or memory wouldn't matter. That's why I keep things, if you must know. - If I forget them, how am I supposed to I know who I am?"

Despite the efforts of teachers and educators, every year secondary schools across the English-speaking world turn out millions of functionally illiterate leavers. The costs in human misery and in wasted productivity are catastrophic. What can schools do to prevent this situation? In this highly accessible book James and Dianne Murphy combine more than 50 years of experience to provide teachers with a thorough, easy to use introduction to the extensive research on reading and its effects on student achievement. Drawing on the work of experts from around the world, the authors explore how we learn to read, how the many myths and misconceptions around reading developed, and why they continue to persist. Building on these foundations chapters go on to examine how the general secondary school classroom can support all levels of reading more effectively, regardless of subject; how school leaders can ensure that their systems, practices and school culture deliver the very best literacy provision for all students; and what it takes to ensure that a racing intervention aimed at adolescent struggling readers is truly effective. The overall message of this books is one of great optimism: the authors demonstrate that the right of every child to learn to read is entirely achievable if schools employ the best research-driven practice.

"Midnight Sun" is a travel book about Norway. It is a written account of a trip the author made to see a friend during the summer solstice in 2016. Nature and Norwegian society combine to make an intellectual tale of adventure and friendship as James Murphy makes the most of his week long journey in the beautiful Scandinavian country. Concepts and conversations about women, family, adventure, and spirituality grace this tale. The perception of the author critiques this foreign world he is living in and embraces the newness fully as he relates it to the life he already knows. Food, beer, and futbol are often objects of conversation, but Einar and James often dive into things much deeper, and with the local insight and humor of Einar, the two share many insightful ideas during this spectacular week of travel. All of which is written in the pages of "Midnight Sun."

Kids and Kingdom challenges the traditional view that Jesus was deeply concerned over children. Instead, it is argued that despite the Synoptic authors' attempts to convince us that children are fully included in the kingdom of God--that ""Jesus loves the little children""--their presentations fail to conceal images of household disruption and alienation of children brought about by Jesus' eschatological movement. After establishing what Greco-Roman and Jewish sources reveal about children by the end of the first century, a deconstructive literary approach is applied to the Synoptic Gospels, foregrounding children over other characters in relation to Jesus' adult ministry. Murphy scrutinizes prominent healing narratives involving children, and teachings involving children such as ""The Child in the Midst"" (Mark 9:36-37 and parallels), ""One of These Little Ones"" (Mark 9:42 and parallels), and ""Let the Young Children Come to Me"" (Mark 10:13-16 and parallels). These are examined against sayings of Jesus relativizing family ties and the lifestyle indicative of the radical call to discipleship in the Synoptic narratives. Fundamentally, this study does not seek to resolve but to highlight the tensions in the Synoptic Gospels between attempts at child inclusivity and the radical demands of discipleship.

Revision with unchanged content. It is doubtful that any commercial enterprise today has not benefitted greatly from advances in technology, most of which are based on electronics. The ancient art of determining and locating land boundaries has always relied on precise measurement of the vectors which define the perimeter. The purpose of this book is to document the development of an accurate, affordable, reliable machine to perform the relatively long distance measurements routinely made by land surveyors. In 1951, Erik Bergstrand culminated thirteen years of research by bringing an electronic distance meter which measured distances based on the speed of light to the market. Research efforts in applied electronics and wave propagation led to the maser, which allowed Harry Baumann and T. L. Wadley to develop and market a device using the microwave spectrum to measure. Advances in transistors and integrated circuit technology introduced the simplification and miniaturization to electronic distance measuring that would transform the once novel instrument into a commodity product.
